We are looking for experienced educators that would like part time work as a private tutor. We could especially use a tutor with elementary experience.

This job is perfect for college-aged adults (that are on track to be a teacher), retired teachers, and SAHMs that were once a teacher.

Email is provided in graphic below.

Private tutoring can be used to introduce a new skill, topic, or idea. Hiring a private tutor can be used when a child is highly interested in a subject area and would like more opportunities to practice that skill with a professional.

Private tutoring is a positive way to display one on one learning, not a way to shame children for "falling behind" in their learning.

09/17/2022

The average grade in a subject area gives very little detail to how your child is progressing academically. The collection of grades that create your child's average score can cover 2-3 different units, skills, or topics. Unless you know exactly which skill is pulling your child's average down then there is no way to know how to move forward.

Never Forget.
21 years ago 2,977 people were killed in the September 11 attacks.
Like most of you, that day is etched into my memory.
Pray, even now, for all of the victims that were involved in the horrific event that happened over 2 decades ago.

09/09/2022

Let this be a season where grace takes over your child's academics. Instead of striving for straight A's, perfect attendance, or perfect conduct, strive for a love for learning. Position your child to be able to see that academics and grades are just one piece of the puzzle in their learning.

09/07/2022

Every child WILL bloom when it is their time.

Not all kids will develop like the child next to them.

Truly, the "fight" needs to be against the social pressures that are put on children at such an early age instead of the "fight" for the child to perform at such a rate that is developmentally inappropriate.

Take that pressure off and give them the freedom to learn and grow to their ultimate potential.

09/05/2022

One of the biggest conceptions about tutoring is that your child needs to be "struggling" in order to hire a tutor. Sometimes, a tutor is necessary for initial instruction, especially in regards to the early stages of reading and mathematical reasoning.

When I taught public school, I had a phrase I used a lot, "I can't force you to learn (xyz)". I knew, even in my early years of educating, that I could never force an education on a child that wasn't willing to learn themselves. I HAD to change my approach to learning as an invitation. This change had positive results because it created the kind of culture I wanted in my classroom; a culture where everyone can learn and wanted to learn.

09/01/2022

Fight the social pressure that says your child is "behind" and step into the freedom that says your child is learning to the best of their ability!

Remember that children are still feeling the effects that C*v*d had on them 2 years ago. Their minds were elsewhere and need time to re-learn knowledge that was instructed to them.

If this makes you think twice, you might have been a product (or still apart) of a hurried education.

This is not a lazy way of educating, it is THE most developmentally appropriate way to teach children.

Slow.
Methodical.
Open-ended.
Conversational.
Inquiring.

Learning is not a checklist.

“Good” students are not the predictor of a successful adult life.

Good students typically refer to receiving good grades and what good are good grades post graduation?

I watched, with my own eyes, peers at my high school cheat their way to the top 10% of our class.

Reasons?

•Parent approval
•Perfectionism/can’t fail attitude
•Seeking the “perfect” college

Not one of those reasons have anything to do with the simple joy of learning.

Kids do not cheat on learning when they are enjoying the process, but if the process is to cram information down your throat only to regurgitate it all for a paper/pencil test. GROSS. Yeah, I can see why cheating is motivating.

So, when I am tutoring a child, I consider the fact that they will have a rich, full life that includes all of their talents and strengths. I consider the fact that one day they won’t be behind a desk, but doing what they love in the best way possible. I remind them that their heart’s desires are important and that they should begin using those gifts even now, because what is a world with just a bunch of good students?

If you are planning to take the route of a private school, here are a few things that I would have on my checklist:

-does the school “mimic” public school? If it does, what exactly are you paying for?
-low technology (they aren't just placing the kids in front of a screen all day)
-a plan for intervention when a child is truly struggling (they do not opt for medication as the first option)
-real world/hands on experiences (field trips, special speakers, STEM...)
-opportunities during the day to read independently
-teacher morale (are the teachers happy working there?)

What else am I forgetting?

Sometimes a tutoring session can be spent “unlearning” more than learning.
Unlearning: negative mindsets, bad habits, shaky problem solving skills, and poor critical thinking skills.

Once we have untangled the knot that’s been “wrapped” so tightly around a child’s frame of mind towards learning, THEN, I can move forward with teaching.

I always have a lesson plan, even if the plan looks like I’m moving backwards.

The Joy Of Learning

My name is Megan Rucker and I am a Texas certified teacher. I have been in the public school environment for the last 7 years. My passion is working alongside professional educators and students in order to grow and learn together. Being in the public school sector I have learned how to differentiate instruction for all students. I do know, though, that nothing replaces time. Some students just simply need more time and opportunities to practice essential skills for learning. That’s where I come in. I can help your child with that extra time in order to grow them as a learner. My goal is to fill in learning gaps that may be missing and help give them the support and strategies they need to be successful in school. I am servicing all K-12 students from all educational platforms such as, public, private, online, & homeschool.
