Understand Your Why

Imagine, you finally retire, wake up on Day 1, and realize, that your calendar is actually empty. No responsibilities. For most, it sounds great for the first 72 hours, until you find yourself cleaning the grout in the tile.
About 40% of retirees admit they did not set a clear path of what they wanted to do, they just knew to save for retirement one day.
If you save without a clear vision, that’s like going on vacation, but you forgot the bag you packed.

Think about why you want to retire. If you enjoy what you do, don’t retire, just shift your focus.

This scam often involves an attorney searching for a beneficiary for his or her deceased client. Keep in mind that you should never pay money in order to get money. If you believe an offer is legitimate, discuss it with a family member or trusted friend to gain an outside perspective.

Money: A means to an End

“Money is a tool, an invention, designed to enable progress. Money is a means to an end, not the end goal itself.”

Money is not just about the numbers, it’s a tool to build the life you want. It’s about what the cash allows you to do.

The best strategy is not about chasing the highest number, it’s about making sure your money aligns with what you actually want to do.

Scam artists have been known to impersonate loved ones, tricking older adults into providing financial information or sending money to an unknown account. Always ask questions that only your loved one can answer or call your family member back at a number that you know to be legitimate.

Success,the not so straight path.

If life were guaranteed perfect, then we would all be doing what we want to do by 40. But, let’s be real, a lot of successful retirees didn’t get to that point without riding through a few potholes.

Maybe you lost your job, maybe the market did a crazy thing overnight, or maybe you invested in that “sure” thing that went belly up. Setbacks happen. Don’t let those define you, what defines you is your ability to bounce back.

Life is like a road trip. The tanks full when you start, but at some point during the day, you will get stopped by traffic, roadwork or your own car trouble. Successful retirees are the ones who learned to navigate. They adapted, adjusted and life moves on.

When thinking about retirement, think of being flexible as shock absorbers. Embrace the shock, learn from them.

“Rewirement”.

That’s the idea of turning the needle from saving to spending. From clocking in to checking out, and from a life built around work to a life built around purpose. After years of chasing the next return, now it’s time to spend smart, live large and finally enjoy what you worked for.

Your new life after saving all of those years will cost money. From spending more time with grandkids, or traveling to see your kids, or just picking up that woodworking hobby you have wanted to do for the last 15 years.

Plan for it, budget for joy, not just to pay bills.

What do you need to rewire??

Emotions and investing usually don’t mix well. Fear, excitement and panic often push investors to buy high, sell low or abandon their strategy altogether.

Before reacting to the latest headline, pause and reconnect with your long term goals. Your retirement, your family’s future and your legacy may depend on it.

Too often, our emotions can be a barrier to our investment success. In these situations, it’s important to take a timeout and remember why you’re investing.
