Got to spend a bit of time today with two friends GM Mike and GM Nito. They were in Chico Ca presenting a workshop. It was fun to catch up as we had not seen one another in over 15 years. We also talked about collaborating on bringing more of the Filipino martial arts to the NorCal area. 🤙🤙🤙

My student is working on garote-daga transitions. It takes time to obtain the flowing techniques. A swinging target gives a sense of reality of a moving opponent. A great way to train if you do not have a partner.

ONE-Derobio mano vs daga training. The # 1 rule in our mano vs daga defense is to GET OFF-LINE. Too often when you see people doing daga training (armed or unarmed) they are standing directly in front of the armed attacker. Yes, it is essential to believe in your skills but in reality, your block can fail and if you are not offline in the attack the consequences can be fatal. The 2nd rule in daga defense is to defend using the back of the hand. As per GGM Pedoy, In a knife fight it is not if you will be cut, it is about how badly you will be cut. And if you are cut better to be on the outside rather than the inside of the defending arm. Train Hard-Train Safe-Keep it Real-Your life depends on It. 🤙🤙🤙

Hey it still fits, one of my Pedoy chief instructor shirts from the early 90's. It is a little frayed around the edges, like me showing my age and with years of dedication to Pedoy Derobio Escrima. 🤙🤙🤙

Saturday morning class at Americana BJJ in Paradise Ca using Bunal padded garotes. Free form (broken number striking) working on deflection, footwork and counter striking. Many people think if you got padded sticks you need to club the heck out of each other and yes that can be fun and informative. But it is also important to slow it down and work on finer points of targeting when your training partner is moving around rather than standing in one spot. 🤙
