The Monroe County 4-H Poultry Show was held on September 26 at AgCentral Farmers Co-Op in Sweetwater. 18 youth began the project with 12 baby chicks in May and brought 3 hens to the event.
The Grand Champion group of hens went to Elisabeth Tallent, and the Reserve Champion group was raised by Shyanne Price-Madzarac. The judge for the show was Chris Hall. Tallent also had the Champion Junior Division group, and Brystal Holland had the Champion Junior High group.
The auction was conducted by Brandon Presley of JD’s Realty and Auction. The chickens were bought at an average of $26 per bird, with $1,455 being raised, both to benefit the youth raising the chickens and also to support the Monroe County 4-H Poultry Program.
The sponsors for the show were Monroe County Farm Bureau and AgCentral Co-Op.
