The Partnership strives to facilitate new equitable, mutually-beneficial partnerships that create a positive impact for both the community and UW-Madison.

Opened in 2015, the UW South Madison Partnership (UWSMP) is a UW–Madison initiative designed to meet the South Madison community's needs and foster mutually beneficial relationships. The UW South Madison Partnership serves as a place for the university to connect with community partners in a space that is more accessible and responsive to community needs.

On Monday March 2nd, the SMP team had the honor of attending the 4th Annual Wisconsin Idea Conference hosted by the Morgridge Center.

The Wisconsin Idea challenges us to think critically about the role institutions play in communities and how we can collaborate with integrity, trust, and shared purpose.

We spent the day learning from community voices, exploring innovative partnership models, and connecting with scholars and practitioners who are deeply committed to making a positive impact beyond campus walls.

Community-driven work is not just a concept; it is a responsibility, and we are grateful to be part of conversations that continue to shape what meaningful engagement looks like.

We were honored to welcome Wisconsin State Representative Sheila Stubbs and Dane County Executive Melissa Agard to celebrate one of our valued anchor partners, the Richard Dilley Tax Center, and their incredible 25 years of service to the community.

For a quarter of a century, the Richard Dilley Tax Center has provided free tax preparation services, ensuring community members can file their taxes at no cost. This vital work is made possible by more than 80 dedicated volunteers who generously give their time and expertise year after year.

A special thank you to lead coordinators Clare Dahl, Paul Swanson, Kula Yang, Casey Hana Vetter, and Ron Tauchen for their leadership and commitment, along with the 80+ volunteers who make this program possible.

We’re proud to partner with an organization that continues to remove barriers and expand access to essential resources. Congratulations on 25 years of impact and cheers to many more! 🎉

As we wrap up 2025, we want to take a moment to reflect on the highlights, milestones, and moments that made this year so meaningful for UW South Madison Partnership.
This year was especially significant as we celebrated our 10th anniversary, a decade rooted in community, collaboration, learning, and impact. From community gatherings and partnerships to programs, celebrations, and everyday moments in our space, 2025 was filled with connection and shared purpose.
We are deeply grateful to our community partners, neighbors, students, staff, and supporters who continue to show up and grow with us. As we reflect on the past year, and the past 10 years, we are excited to carry this momentum forward into what’s next.
Here’s to continued partnership, learning, and community in 2026. 💙✨

Last Friday, SMP got together with our community partners to recognize and celebrate all our achievements of the year. It was our last Advisory Meeting of 2025. It was a chance to connect with the community partners and enjoy some food and snacks. We also had an undergraduate who presented her research through UniverCity Alliance.
As we approach the end of the year, we hope that you all enjoyed being at SMP and collaborating with us during the year. We hope to see you all again soon next year. Enjoy your break and wish you a very Happy New Year!

SMP will be closed from December 17th to January 5th, but we will be monitoring our emails over the holidays.

This past week was filled with many great and meaningful events that brought the community together, fostering connection and togetherness. One event we had the privilege of supporting was the Get Movin’ In Motion: 8-Year Anniversary Celebration and Impact and Assessment Kick Off Event!

For eight years, Get Movin’ In Motion has created a space for movement, connection, and wellness. It was truly inspiring to celebrate its impact alongside participants, partners, and community members. The afternoon was filled with high energy, smiles, and reflection as people gathered to enjoy a great meal, gifts, and free books.
We’re proud to call the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center a valued community partner and were grateful to see so many people come together to celebrate this milestone. We look forward to continuing to prioritize health, joy, and community alongside you all.

A huge thank you to Dr. Fabu Carter and Annik Dupaty for their leadership in building, sustaining, and organizing this program, and to Johnny Winston Jr. for his consistent dedication to coaching and guiding participants through meaningful movement week after week. Here’s to many more years of movement, connection, and community 💙

We had a wonderful time celebrating the 2025 Urban Cabaret on October 10th, an evening dedicated to honoring Dr. Ruben L. Anthony Jr.’s remarkable 10 years of leadership with the Urban League of Greater Madison. 🎉✨
Returning to the iconic Monona Terrace, the Cabaret once again showcased what makes it one of Madison’s most dynamic events: incredible local performers, inspiring community voices, and powerful support for the Urban League’s free programs that uplift youth, families, and neighborhoods across Dane County.
As one of our key community partners, the Urban League plays an essential role in advancing opportunity and equity. We are grateful to stand alongside them in this work and to celebrate a decade of impact under Dr. Anthony’s visionary guidance.
A night of community, connection, and collaboration. ❤️
