MYC is proud to announce that the 2026 Carrel Pray Music Educator of the Year Award will be presented to Maestro John DeMain at MYC's Spring Concert Series, "In Other Works".
Named in honor of Carrel Pray, founder of Madison Boychoir, the award annually recognizes an individual in our community who has made a significant contribution to music education and/or has been especially supportive of MYC and its programs.
Maestro DeMain has served as music director of Madison Symphony Orchestra for more than 30 years, and several generations of our singers have had the unforgettable experience of performing under his baton in A Madison Symphony Christmas, many Madison Opera productions, and special MSO experiences like Carmina Burana and Mahler's "Symphony of a Thousand."
We invite you to be part of the audience for this special award presentation during Cantilena, Cantabile, and Ragazzi's spring concert at 7:30pm on Sunday, May 17 at Verona High School Performing Arts Center.

Exciting news! MYC is honored to be a recipient of a special America250 grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board, with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts, for the world premiere of Purcell, Britten, Holst, and Ragazzi's performance of "Boswell: A Dance Called America" by MYC conductor Randal Swiggum.
Drawing from the text of James Boswell's "Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides," the piece explores the promise of our country at the dawn of its founding, from the perspective of a Scottish community watching increasing numbers of their fellow citizens set sail for a new life in America in the 1770s.
As over 100 young singers prepare this work with our conductors, we're also exploring how people abroad envisioned America as a place of opportunity, freedom, and abundance, while reflecting on the complex reality of how newcomers have been received and valued over the past 250 years.
You can experience this stirring new composition at MYC's 4pm spring concert on Sunday, May 17. Visit https://www.madisonyouthchoirs.org/tickets for more information and ticketing.
