Day FIVE of RACISM as a Risk Factor:
We’re looking at data regarding health disparities in our home state.
We’re hearing more about student experiences in the institution we reside in.
We’re calling all of our peers, mentors, and students to engage in CULTURALLY HUMBLE care.
And we’re inviting you all to join us next Wednesday evening 2/24 at 6pm to CELEBRATE BLACK EXCELLENCE IN MEDICINE. (Watch for an email with the zoom link)
THANK YOU all for your participation and attention this week. We applaud your honesty, vulnerability, and support as we work to dismantle systemic racism in our institution, in our profession, and in our community.

Day FOUR of RACISM as a Risk Factor:
Today we’re calling attention to racism as a white problem. Race was created by white people and as such must be dismantled by white people.
We need to acknowledge the intention in the creation of systems as we know them, and the structural racism that continues to result from that initial creation. Health care, medicine, academia are all complicit in this.

Day 3 of RACISM as a Risk Factor
Today we turn our attention to our classmates of color who experience micro- and macroaggressions within the walls of our own institution.
We want to say: we hear you, we see you, we will use this and other platforms to call attention to these experiences, and we also acknowledge the secondary trauma potentially inflicted by participating in this series. Thank you.
In addition, we’re announcing our next Grand Rounds! Look for an email next week and join us as we Celebrate Black Excellence in Medicine.

Day 2 of RACISM as a risk factor.
Black women and their children deserve better.

RACISM as a risk factor.
It is up to all of us to acknowledge the role racism has on the lives of our patients both inside and outside of the clinic and hospital in an effort to make changes to the systems we reside in.
These are true accounts of racism at play in our institution.
We demand better.

🖊 ❤️ Just had an awesome time kicking off Solidarity Week by handing out some GHHS pens and note cards to nurses, residents and staff...everyone was super excited to write somebody a note to brighten their day.
