Public, Private or Home School?

Public School, Private School, or Homeschool?

Parents ask me all the time which one is best.

After 15 years working in schools, here’s my answer:

I’ve seen amazing kids come from all three.

I’ve also seen absolute train wrecks come from all three.

Turns out, the magic isn’t hiding in the school building.

It’s at home.

School should help educate your child, but it was never designed to do all the heavy lifting.

Read with your kids.
Teach them basic math.
Talk about life.
Know what they’re learning.
Expect effort.
Expect respect.
Teach them how to think, not just how to pass a test.

You don’t need a teaching degree. You need to be involved.

Public, private, homeschool, one-room schoolhouse on top of a mountain… pick what works for your family.

Just remember:

The school teaches subjects.

Parents teach life.

Please don’t outsource the second one.

Happy Parenting,

Officer Gomez

📚✏️ Here’s to a GREAT start to a brand-new school year! 🍎✨

As students head back to school on Monday, we’re wishing each of them a year filled with curiosity, confidence, new friendships, big ideas, and lots of learning! 🌟

Try something new. Ask lots of questions. Make mistakes. Keep going. And most importantly—believe in yourself! 💙

We can’t wait to see all the amazing things our students will discover and accomplish this year.

🎒 Have an AMAZING first day and a fantastic school year!

Dear The Town of Mayodan NC - we have a student at the Mayodan Methodist Church who knows the exact location and schedule of your waste management trucks! We have to stop all activities and watch as the truck goes by. We would love to arrange for this truck and driver to visit in the fall!!!
