A message from our Athletic Director, Scott Davidson: 🏆 At CCA, not every kid has to be the star of the team—they just need the chance to play.

As we look ahead to the 2026–27 school year, there is a lot to be excited about in the future of athletics at Canaan Community Academy.

First, congratulations to our students who participated in the 2026 Little League Wrestling program through the Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson County! A special thank you to coaches Cody Banks, Dalton Young, and Jeremy Gordon, to Ashley Banks for everything she did behind the scenes, and to our CCA staff who helped make practices possible.

And we're just getting started.

Additional wrestling opportunities are being planned, including an after-school clinic, along with several other athletic clinics throughout the year. Some will focus on developing skills and fundamentals. Others might simply be about getting together for some kickball, wiffleball, and fun.

Because sometimes, kids just wanna play.

Our philosophy at CCA is simple: give every student the opportunity to grow as both a student and an athlete, while recognizing that every child is unique and brings different abilities, interests, and strengths.

Athletics should build more than athletes. They should build confidence, teamwork, courage, friendships, and a sense of belonging.

We're building CCA athletics together—and we want to create a program our students, families, school, and community can be proud of.

🎶 What if recess came with its own soundtrack?

Soon, students at Canaan Community Academy will be able to step outside and make a little music of their own with our new outdoor musical space!

Inspired by Freenotes Harmony Park, the space will feature outdoor sound sculptures including drums, marimbas, metallophones, harps, and more. The instruments are made for all ages and abilities, designed to stay outdoors and in tune, and created so that everyone can make music that sounds good together.

But this project is about much more than making music.

Music supports the whole child—building confidence and creativity, strengthening memory and concentration, reducing stress and anxiety, engaging the senses, and giving children another way to express themselves and connect with others.

Best of all, everyone can participate. No lessons required. No musical experience needed. Just play, explore, listen, and create.

The space will also be available for our families and community, creating another place on the CCA campus where people can gather, connect, and simply enjoy being together.

At CCA, learning doesn't have to stay inside four walls—and sometimes, it might even sound like a drumbeat. 🥁💚

🐾 The final bell doesn't mean the learning has to stop.

CCA's C.L.A.W. Program (Canaan Leaders Advancing the World) is giving students more opportunities to learn, explore, move, and have fun after school—and it's FREE for CCA families!

Available five days a week until 6:00 PM, C.L.A.W. includes 30 minutes of focused academic time each evening, STEM activities, reading, spelling and math practice, enrichment opportunities, and a healthy snack.

Students are already learning American Sign Language and exploring geology, with more guest presenters and hands-on experiences planned throughout the year. Free tutoring will also be added later this school year.

We know every family's schedule looks different, so C.L.A.W. is flexible. Families can choose the days that work for them and change their schedule when needed. Limited bus service is available, and students can be picked up anytime before 6:00 PM. The program also works alongside our athletic clinics so students don't have to choose between C.L.A.W. and participating in activities.

It's another way we're continuing CCA's Finnish-inspired approach beyond the school day—giving kids time for academics, creativity, movement, outdoor experiences, and simply being kids.
