Salvete omnes! With convention fast approaching, I am making this post to give you the information you need to know for this years convention. Here it goes:
This is the 2017 Latin Convention master post, filled with all you need to know about convention. This will include a general timeline and packing list.
On Thursday, January 26th, you will be excused from school following fourth hour. You should arrive at The Park Hotel(22 S Carroll St, Madison, WI 53703) at 3pm to check in with me. You need to get there on your own so get your parents/guardians to drive you or carpool with a friend. You will receive a name tag at check in, you must wear this AT ALL TIMES. If you lose yours please go to Mags to see about getting a new one. Thursday night dinner is not provided so please bring money to buy food at the hotel's restaurant or that the WJCL orders. Friday we will be going to Union South for the majority of the day but we will be going back to the hotel around late afternoon. Saturday Convention ends around 11-11:30, please have someone pick you up.
Basic rules of Convention are generally similar to school rules as this is an academic event. Failure to comply with these rules will result in you being sent home at your parents expense.
General packing list
-Clothes for 2 days
-PJs(Saturday morning is pajama day)
-Toiletries
-Good walking shoes
-Toga for dinner on Friday night(this should be a bed sheet, not fitted)
-Bathing suit, the hotel has a pool that you are free to use
At convention we have two spirit assemblies. Participation in these assemblies is mandatory and they are very fun. During spirit we dress to accommodate a theme chosen by the WJCL, and we shout out our spirit cheers(these will be taught to you sometime Thursday before the first general assembly) All assemblies are mandatory(there are four of them), however there are only two that are spirit assemblies. These are on Thursday at the hotel and Friday at Union South.
-Other important points
-On Thursday night, the SCL is in charge of food, not the WJCL.
-Really make an effort not to lose your name tag. It would be a real hassle and would cost you $5.
