Wednesday Wonder:

Did you know that Lydia Middleton, the namesake of Lydia Middleton Elementary, once traveled to work by train?

After earning her teaching license at just 18, Miss Middleton rode the Pennsylvania Railroad each day from lower Madison to teach at Pleasant Point, a one-room school in Jefferson County.

She later spent 35 years at Madison’s Lower Seminary, including 21 years as principal. That school stood where Lydia Middleton Elementary stands today! When the new school opened in 1923, it was named in her honor and still serves children over 100 years later.

Her story reminds us of the lasting impact dedicated people have across all of our MCS schools. We appreciate every staff member at Madison Consolidated Schools whose care, hard work, and commitment make a difference for our students and families each day.

Now it’s your turn to share some appreciation! Which past or current MCS educator or staff member (from any and all of our schools) has made a difference in your life or your child’s life? Share their name, a memory, or a message of thanks in the comments!

MCS Families:

This is a friendly reminder that this Thursday, October 1st, all elementary students in grades PK-4 will complete academic work asynchronously and will not attend their physical buildings in-person. This is to allow for parent-teacher conferences.

All students in grades 5-12 that attend Madison Junior High School, or Madison Consolidated High School will attend their physical buildings in-person. Again, all students at the Junior High and High School will attend school as normal.

Thank you for your continued support and please contact the front office of your child's school with questions.

Every school day, Madison Consolidated Schools serves 900 breakfasts and 1,600 lunches - that’s 2,500 meals a day! Across 180 school days, that adds up to 450,000 meals fueling our students each year.

Behind every meal is a dedicated food service team helping our students start strong, stay nourished, and be ready to learn. Thank you for the hard work, care, and kindness you bring to our schools every day. We are so appreciative of everything you do!

Join us in thanking our amazing food service staff!
