Prof. Tristan Vigliano (University Aix-Marseille) will present on Friday, October 22, 2021, at 4:00-5:30pm at the French House (633 N. Frances St)
How to Study Humanism and the Representation of Islam?
A Dispatch from the Fronts of Today's French 'Culture Wars' (in English)
Prof. Vigliano is widely known for his scholarship on early modern humanism and the cultural exchanges between Western Europe and the Islamic world in early modernity. He has also published a groundbreaking book on the wake of the 2015 terrorist attacks in France titled L' Islam e(s)t ma culture [Islam is/and my Culture]. Prof. Vigliano is currently finishing a book on humanism and intercultural relations in our divided times.
See you at the French House on Friday, October 22! Please note that masks are required and that there will be no traditional wine and cheese after the conference. But there will be plenty of food for thought, guaranteed!

CRS is pleased to promote “Passages,” a lecture and workshop on early modern globalization by Elizabeth Rodini (American Academy, Rome). The lecture, “There and Back Again: Tracking Gentile Bellini’s Portrait of Sultan Mehmed II,” will take place at 4 pm CDT on Thursday, December 3, 2020. The lecture will be moderated by CRS Director Lia Markey. A workshop, “Itinerant Objects: Early Modern Mobility and the Spaces In Between,” will follow on Tuesday, December 8, also at 4 pm CDT. Both events are free, but registration in advance is required. See the attached flyer for more information and links to register.
