✨Teatro Décimo Piso at UW-Madison presents Ruido, a Peruvian play by Mariana de Althaus!✨

It will be taking place on April 4th & 5th at 7:00 PM at the Gilbert Hemsley Theatre. Be sure to experience this unforgettable evening of sharp satirical comedy, set against the backdrop of the 1990s Peruvian Civil War.

🌟Congratulations Prof.Rao on receiving a Fulbright Specialist Award!!

Prof. Rao will complete a project at Central University of Rajasthan in India that “aims to exchange knowledge and establish partnerships benefiting participants, institutions, and communities both in the U.S. and overseas through a variety of educational and training activities within Anthropology.

Recipients of Fulbright Specialist awards are selected on the basis of academic and professional achievement, demonstrated leadership in their field, and their potential to foster long-term cooperation between institutions in the U.S. and abroad.”

On Monday April 15th, the Madison Public Library hosted critically-acclaimed author Valeria Luiselli, writer of the story Lost Children Archives. In a conversation with Professor Paola Hernández, Luiselli talked about how she conveys topics like migration, identity, and community through her writing.

Maya activist and writer, Bernardo Caamal (el Arux) and his daughter Inaytah visited the UW-Madison campus to present their book about the history and resistance of their community, as well as participate in a panel discussion and presentation of the film, "Maya Land: Listening to the Bees" co-directed by Spanish and Portuguese faulty member, Kata Beilin.

Languages and Linguistic Variation on Campus 02/21/2024

This video was a project of Martiniano Etchart, a doctoral student in Second Language Acquisition and Spanish Linguistics. The video was envisioned and created with the Language Ideologies and Linguistic Discrimination group, with funding through the Language Institute. Video production was by UW-Madison student Ken Wang and by Erika Schock with the L&S Instructional Design Consortium. Peter Kleppin with University Communications consulted on the project and provided video footage of campus scenes. Language Institute director Dianna Murphy provided project oversight. Good job, Martiniano!
