My child is crying at drop-off what can I do?

It can be hard for some children, and some parents, to say goodbye so to help ease the drop-off we have these suggestions.
Be consistent. Arrive at the same time every day. When a child knows what to expect when they arrive, they feel more comfortable.
Follow a routine when you enter your room. Routines like putting their things in their cubby followed by a special goodbye works wonders to help start a good day.
Always say goodbye before you leave. It is very unsettling for a child to turn around and find their parent had left. This can cause mistrust the next time you go to school.

At any age a child may start having hard drop-offs even if they have never had difficulty before. It might be because they have moved to a new classroom, have a new teacher, are at a new developmental stage, have a change at home (new baby or a move) or any number of reasons. Don't worry, it's normal. Keep doing your routines for drops offs. Give big hugs and kisses and even if they are crying say goodbye, letting the teachers take over. Don't linger and wait for them to settle and play, because they won't while you are still there. If you are confident and relaxed your child will settle in quicker.

When your family doesn't live nearby, and you want your child to know their family.....
Make a book of photos!
You can print pictures onto cardstock and laminate or cover with clear contact paper and make a book, cards or hang them on the wall!
You can also put them in a small photo book!
Leaving them out will let your child explore them whenever they choose!
Don't forget to print a picture of you and your, nothing is more exciting than seeing yourself in a book.
