Congratulations to our graduated research assistant, Abdullah, on this massive honor! We are so proud of you and wish you the best in your future endeavors. 🥳

Three seniors, graduating from UW-Madison College of Letters & Science, have been selected by Dean Eric M. Wilcots for the Dean’s Prize. Candidates for this award completed a minimum of 24 Honors Program credits, maintained a high grade-point average, and demonstrated evidence of the pillars of the Wisconsin Experience: empathy and humility, relentless curiosity, intellectual confidence, and purposeful action.

We are thrilled to share that Psychology major Abdullah Marei ‘23 is one of this year’s recipients. Congratulations from all of us in the UW-Madison Department of Psychology!

UW Study Opportunity✨

✨ The BRAVE Research Center at the UW-Madison Department of Psychiatry is seeking youth ages 10-16, accompanied by a caregiver, to participate in two neuroscience research studies!

Both studies involve the youth and caregiver coming to WisPIC (6001 Research Park Blvd., Madison) for research visits where they will answer questions about thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, complete MRI brain scans, provide biological samples, and complete various computer games/task. Eligible youth cannot have braces.

For the Emotional Development study, participants engage in three study visits per year for two years, earning up to $640 total. For the Parent-Child Learning Study, participants engage in five study visits, including three days in a row of MRI brain scans, earning up to $510 total.

The goal is to translate the research on brain development into novel treatments for youth victims of trauma to help encourage resiliency. By participating in the research, community members will get a firsthand look at the scientific process and know that their participation may benefit families in the future.

Today, and every day, we acknowledge the First Nations that came before us, specifically the Ho-Chunk Nation, on whose ancestral land the Aldo Leopold Nature Center sits.

The Ho-Chunk have traditional lands from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois. Our local Madison area is called 'Teejop' (day-JOPE), which refers to its four lakes (Mendota, Monona, Waubesa, and Kegonsa). This area, known for its many mounds, has a rich human history extending back several thousand years.

Despite government seizure or forced removal from most of these lands, the Ho-Chunk remain active in our community, continuing to sustain their culture and beliefs. We are grateful to all who have long stewarded this land, and we acknowledge that we have much to learn. As we work to educate ourselves and others of the cultural and historical significance of our land, we invite you to check out the many resources at wisconsinfirstnations.org.
