How’s THIS for a great story...

Once upon a time, in 2018, a boy named Jarod met a girl named Mallory their freshman year of UW undergrad. Cut to the last few weeks, when they became Jarod Moyer, MD ‘26 and Mallory Rongstad Moyer, MD (Drexel) - they just got married AND they both matched at UW (ortho and peds)!

Congratulations! Jarod has certainly gained a clan of Badgers with this marriage. His new parent-in-laws are both one year into retirement from UW - Meriel Rongstad, MD ‘90 and Kurt Rongstad, MD ‘90! And Mallory’s sister is Rachel “Kiki” Rongstad Mifflin, MD ‘19, who joined UW’s Department of Pediatrics last year.

“After dating since meeting freshman year in the Witte dorms at UW, we weathered long distance while attending medical schools 1,000 miles apart, and could not be more excited to now be married and preparing to start residency at UW this month!”

It appears ALL your matches have turned out very, very well. We are happy to keep you, Jarod - and to welcome Mallory into the UW residency family! 🦡

Incredible work coming out of the school's Department of Cell and Regenerative Biology - and what a story:

The Two Owens | On Wisconsin The death of a six-year-old inspired a UW researcher to investigate a rare brain cancer.

Today’s students are the grateful beneficiaries of our alumni generosity - and no doubt will “pay it forward” down the road when they’re in a position to give back. Check out this article on an alumna who has done just that.

Aadhavi Sridharan, MD ’14, PhD ’12, created a scholarship to support students in the Medical Science Training Program where she earned her degree — and gave it a very special name.

Our profound thanks to all our incredible scholarship donors who do so much to support the next generation of Badger physicians!

We’re awed by the many opportunities afforded our medical students - and their consistent zeal to be of service.

Several M1s (rising M2s!) are in Guatemala with UW’s Global health for a two-week service learning trip. This awesome crew took a break from helping run a medical service clinic in rural Guatemala to head to Acatenango mountain to summit the volcano and see the fuego volcano!

The strenuous summer Shapiro research they’ll return to may feel tame in comparison. Thanks for your service, and happy summer to all!

The school’s Orthopedic Interest Group and Women in Orthopedics groups recently hosted a Sawbones Sessions for medical students to practice hands-on orthopedic techniques with faculty and residents from the department.

Thanks for this great joint effort! 😄

When your Poster Presentation is at an Auto Gallery!

Some of our Green Bay WARM students recently presented posters at the Brown County Medical Society (BCMS) student poster event at the automobile gallery in Green Bay.

They had fun presenting AND checking out the cool cars! Brenen Skalitzky M2, Emma Penfield M2, Alec Brenner M3, Seela Raj M3 and Liz Collinson M2 were joined by Dr. Michael Medich, former medical education director at Green Bay.

Thanks to Seela and Liz for their leadership as student liaisons for BCMS. And congrats to Brenen and Emma, who won first and second place, respectively, for their posters!

For 100 years, UW’s preceptorship program has prepared medical students for real-world practice. Today, we celebrate Drs. Jessica Schmid and Anna Svircev, recipients of the Max Fox Preceptorship Award.

Family medicine physicians at Southwest Health in Platteville, Drs. Schmid and Svircev have collectively mentored 25 medical students since 2018, offering hands-on clinical training grounded in trust, autonomy and patient-centered care.

We are grateful to them and the many preceptors across Wisconsin for their dedication is shaping the next generation of Badger physicians!
