One SJMC. Endless Possibilities.

At the UW–Madison School of Journalism and Mass Communication, students don't just learn how media work, they find endless possibilities to use media to move people, shape society and transform industries.

This week's is Russell Moss, a senior Strategic Communication student working at Dow Jones as a Paid Media Marketing Intern! 💼

At Dow Jones Russell has learned how data and creativity work together to make marketing more effective and how marketers use insights to optimize campaigns. On his commute, you'll find him listening to Viva La Vida by Coldplay 🎵

"While much of my work on the Paid Media team involves analyzing performance data, my coursework has taught me to look beyond the numbers and think about the story they tell about audience behavior and engagement," said Russell. ✏️

This week’s is Caitlin Cieslik-Miskimen (BA’09, MA/PhD'19), a Journalism (Reporting) grad, with a PhD in Mass Communications. Caitlin is now a Director of Graduate Studies and a Professor for the School of Journalism and Mass Media at the University of Idaho ✏️

Caitlin's favorite SJMC memory is her time spent taking J560 (Media History) with James Baughman. "Every day in class, he'd show up with a seemingly sky-high stack of file folders, each stuffed with handwritten lecture notes and pieces of paper with different historical references and statistics." 📚️

Caitlin said the classes she took and the faculty she learned from helped foster a curiosity for the world around her. 💡
