The UW-Madison Global Health Institute advances equitable and sustainable health across Wisconsin and throughout the world. We view the health of individuals and populations through a holistic context of healthy places upon which public health depends–from neighborhoods and national policies, to the state of the global environment. This approach requires collaboration from across the entire campus

to address health care, food security and sustainable agriculture, water and sanitation, environmental sustainability, and “one health” perspectives that integrate the health of humans, animals and the environment. In essence, the GHI addresses the intertwined root (or upstream) causes of ill health across sectors to discover more sustainable strategies for human well-being.

The UW–Madison La Follette School of Public Affairs and the Wisconsin Policy Forum are hosting The Data Center Challenge: Weighing Community Concerns with Growth Opportunities on September 16, 5-7pm, at the Pyle Center.

There will be time for networking before and after the event, with a brief presentation from the Wisconsin Policy Forum on its recent research on data centers in Wisconsin, followed by a panel discussion.

GHI has partnered with the student group, Global Health Alliance, and the Red Cross to host the third annual Blood Drive at GHI on Friday, September 18th, in the GHI Conference Room in the Medical Sciences Center, 1300 University Avenue, Madison, Rm 1010.

To help raise awareness about the nation's blood supply shortage, we are again promoting the Abbott and Big Ten®, We Give Blood Campaign, the blood drive competition that pits 18 Big Ten schools against one another to see who can give the most blood donations to help save lives and win $1 million to advance student or community health.

Every donation can help save up to three lives while bringing UW–Wisconsin one step closer to earning back-to-back donation titles. There is a new Wisconsin t-shirt available by mail for those who record their donations on the We Give Blood Campaign website. The winning school will be announced during the 2026 Discover® Big Ten® Football Championship Game on December 5, 2026.

The University of Wisconsin–Madison invites you to participate in its common book program, Go Big Read. Initiated by past Chancellor Carolyn “Biddy” Martin, the program engages members of the campus community and beyond in a shared, academically focused reading experience. Students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to read the book and take part in classroom discussion and campus events.
