In honor of celebrating UW Law School’s multi-cultural community at the LEO Banquet today, we are pleased to announce APIDALSA’s 1L, 2L, and 3L Student of the Year Award to Kinnari Patel, Jodi Chung, and Stephen Hsu respectively.
Congratulations to you! We could not be more proud of all the work that you have done and continue to do alongside the rest of our equally deserving APIDA-community. 🎉 🎊

For the sake of our mission for inclusivity, we are SO proud to announce that we are now officially, APIDALSA. While we as an organization recognize that not everyone who is seeking to belong may explicitly be defined by this new name, we see you, we hear you, we are proud of you, and we want you here!!

ALSA folks - I’m just checking in to say I hope you are all staying safe and sane and healthy. I know this is an especially difficult time for AAPIs because of the creeping racism being associated with the coronavirus. Just know that you’re supported. If anyone has a serious need (they can’t get food or essentials or whatever), please contact me directly and I’ll see what I can do to help. Take care - Leakhena

ALSA First General Body Meeting
HELLO ALSIANS,
My name is Octavio Barretto, one of two ALSA Co-Presidents along with Leakhena Au (that's right, double the fun). I hope you all had a good summer. Our first general body meeting is going to be next Thursday, September 19, @ noon in room 2211. Lunch will be served✨.
Attendance is mandatory, because we're going to be discussing some heavy stuff, including:
LEO Banquet - This is a 300-450 person event in the spring that's a celebration of diversity in the legal field and also a recruiting ground for mid-to-large size law firms. This year, it's ALSA's turn to host the banquet. We will be organizing everything from the decorations to the food, plus selecting a speaker, marketing the event, and selling tickets. There will be work to do, and you can brag about said work to employers.
1L Representative Elections - Eight 1Ls enter, one 1L leaves.
Movie Night - To be held later this month, where we hang out, eat food. What are we watching? Come to the meeting and find out.
And other things
See you there!
Octavio

Who is Asian American? The U.S. Census Bureau defines an Asian as “a person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent including, for example, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam.” The outdated label “oriental” is considered derogatory and the term “Asian American” should be used in its place. The U.S. Census Bureau also defines Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander as “a person having origins in any of the original peoples of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific Islands.” Asian Pacific American Heritage is celebrated during the entire month of May. Thus, it is the celebration of the heritage of Asian Americans and Hawaiian or other Pacific Islanders.
