Students from 16 teams across the state will compete at this year’s Wisconsin Civics Games state finals on May 1, the Universities of Wisconsin announced on Friday, April 10, 2026.

The Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation (WNAF) has announced that the management of the Foundation’s Wisconsin Civics Games will transition to the Universities of Wisconsin, effective this year. The WNAF launched the Wisconsin Civics Games in 2018 to address the growing need for civic education for high school students.
Registration for the 2026 Civics Games is open. The competition, which aims to promote civics education and encourage Wisconsin high school students to develop an interest in public service, will host play-off competitions virtually on Wednesday and Thursday on April 8-9.

The 2026 Wisconsin Civics Games playoff competitions will be held virtually on April 8-9, and the state finals will be held on May 1 at the State Capitol in Madison.

The Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation is accepting entries for the fifth annual Editorial Writing & Cartoon Contest - which aims to increase civic education and engagement while celebrating the rights established by the First Amendment.
First-place winners in each contest will receive $500, second-place winners will receive $250, and third-place winners will receive $100.
