LACIS' Assistant Director, Sarah Ripp, continues the "Let's Learn Geography" program at Lodi Primary School. Over a series of weekly visits, kindergarteners are learning about their physical place in the world alongside the hobbies, school subjects, typical meals, and more of kids around the world. Join us Tuesday, April 14th @ Noon for a presentation by UW-Madison PhD Candidate, Will Baynard, on what he refers to as "twilight barrios" (...areas defined by weak or ineffective official states (where) nonofficial entities emerge to fill those gaps. He argues a simple point that builds on this premise. San Cristóbal de las Casas (SCLC), a single-city in Mexico's Southern Borderlands, contains an array of non-official state makers whose state-building endeavors transform based on the neighborhoods they occupy.).
