The Aesthetics and Politics Study Group meets at 3:30 PM on the first and third Sundays of every month at Rainbow Bookstore Cooperative. Everyone is welcome.

Newcomers are always welcome! We are motivated by a desire to engage with art together, through discussion, and by a commitment to make, enjoy, and critically evaluate art. We think about art through politics. All genres of musical, literary, visual, and performative arts are game, and we define art broadly. Each meeting will have a facilitator, who will lead a discussion of at least one work of art along with readings of manageable lengths.

We started to answer some of these questions at today's meeting of the Aesthetics and Politics Study Group. We came to discuss the Paris Commune of 1871, but the conversation quickly turned to last week's events at UC Davis -- the sheer beauty of a political moment. Thanks to all who joined us for a fun discussion!

What Is It about This Video of UC Davis Chancellor Katehi Walking to Her Car That's So Mesmerizing?. Is it that long silence in the beginning? The loud footsteps? The sibilance of all the cameras? The gloomy eyes and trench coat? The accent?...
