Hello Sandburg friends!

We are starting a running team at Sandburg called Minds in Motion! Minds in Motion is a six week/twelve lesson run training program designed to prepare kids both physically and mentally for a 5K fun run. The program has the hopes that they will carry these skills forward and continue to challenge themselves physically and mentally in the future. Practices will be for six weeks on Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:20-4:20 starting October 7th until November 18th. We will finish by running a 5K!

¡Hola, amigos de Sandburg!

¡Estamos iniciando un equipo de corredores de Sandburg llamado Minds in Motion (Mentes en movimiento)! Minds in Motion es un programa de entrenamiento para carreras de seis semanas/doce lecciones diseñado para preparar a los niños tanto física como mentalmente para una carrera divertida de 5 km. El programa tiene como objetivo que los niños apliquen estas habilidades y continúen retándose física y mentalmente en el futuro. Los entrenamientos se llevarán a cabo durante seis semanas, los miércoles y viernes de 3:20 a 4:20, a partir del 7 de octubre hasta el 18 de noviembre. ¡Concluiremos con una carrera de 5 km!

The Minds in Motion is on Monday October 5, 2026 to Tuesday November 17, 2026. It includes the following events: Nuestro Mundo Elementary, Sauk Trail Elementary, West Middleton Elementary, Sandburg Elementary, Westside Elementary, Fall River Elementary, and Lake View Elementary.

The first day of school is tomorrow Tuesday, September 1st for 4K and Kindergarten only. Then, we will welcome the rest of our students on Wednesday, September 2nd.

Sandburg families! This year, we are trying something new! We’re hosting Open House *after* the school year starts so you can see our classrooms fully in action. By waiting a few weeks, your child will be able to personally tour you through their classroom spaces, showcase their first work samples, and share how their daily routines are already underway. Join us on Thursday, September 17th at 4:30pm for Open House.

Online enrollment is open for all MMSD students in every grade. Whether you're a returning family or new to MMSD, you can complete the entire enrollment process online. All families must complete enrollment, new AND returning!

REMEMBER: Every student must be enrolled each school year, so be sure to complete the enrollment process for each child.

Sandburg community! There is another pop-up Bike Maintenance Event with Wheels for Winners at Parks Alive at the Sandburg Park coming up on Tuesday, August 18th, from 5:00-7:00pm.

Time to get your bikes ready to ride, pump up your tires, l**e your chain, make sure your brakes are working properly. Bring your bikes and bike mechanics will help you get your bike ready to ride for free.

4K AND KINDERGARTEN SANDBURG FAMILIES: YOU’RE INVITED!

We're calling all new Sandburg families and prospective families! Join us for Pizza with the Principal on Wednesday, August 12th from 4:30–5:30pm! Come tour the school, learn about school routines & procedures, and grab a slice! Stick around right after for PTO Playdate & Popsicles from 5:30-6:30pm.

The countdown to the 2026–2027 school year is on! Starting August 5, MMSD families can complete online enrollment for students in all grades.

Returning to MMSD or joining us for the first time? The enrollment process is simple and fully online.
