Hello all!

With colder weather & lots of holidays coming up, we are starting a food drive to support our families, community, and local food banks. Every donation, monetary or non-perishable food item, goes towards our local pantries and KG families in need.

Kaylee’s Garden strives to take care of not only our children, but their families as well. As November quickly approaches, our concern for our families that utilize EBT grows. Please consider donating if you are able.

It is hard to believe that our annual Fall Fest will be here this Friday already! Fall Fest is a wonderful way for us to raise money to purchase items we would not otherwise be able to and continue offering high quality care to our families on the Northside of Madison. One of the ways we do that is with a silent auction with items donated from our surrounding community. Today we want to highlight Doherty's Family Farm Market that offers grass fed and finished beef along with many other items. They truly care for their animals and offer quality products to their costumers who can see their family farm when visiting their market. We are so grateful to have them partner with us and donate a gift certificate for you to bid on this Friday.

Our 4k class came inside from outdoor exploration to an opportunity to create with our playdough provocation. They were eager to collect different leaves, sticks, and acorns.

Creating playdough provocations in your child’s environment encourages:

🌱 Open-Ended Play—provocations allow the children to explore and interact with no intended outcome. This allows for a variety of different interpretations.

🌱 Fine Motor Development—students were able to get creative with their hands to pinch, roll. This helps them develop their muscles, enhance their dexterity, and improve their hand-eye-coordination!

🌱 Curiosity Driven—we paired our homemade playdough with various different tools and objects. The students were encouraged to ask questions, compare it to their learning of apples and trees, and test out different ideas. This type of play encourages children to think scientifically and creatively while also using problem-solving skills to explore the world around them!

Our Story

The vision of Kaylee’s Garden weighed on my heart nearly twenty years ago. In late 2017, shortly before my daughter became pregnant with her third child, I began working on the program. My vision was to work with children with disabilities using both English and American Sign Language (ASL) in an inclusive, Christ-centered environment alongside typically developing children, with an emphasis on Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and non-verbal children.

After the birth of my daughter’s third child, Kaylee, we discovered that she was born with a cleft palate and heart murmur. Three months later through an echo-cardiogram and ultrasound of Kaylee’s heart, it was found that one of her heart valves did not close and she was further diagnosed with both Ventricular Septal Defect and Atrial Septal Defect. Kaylee underwent open heart surgery to correct these birth defects. After Kaylee turns one-year of age, she will once again undergo surgery to repair her palate as well as receive physical, occupational, and speech therapies.

It has been these experiences with Kaylee that inspired me to name my center, Kaylee’s Garden. It is close to my heart and that of my family’s and has become my drive to make my vision a reality.

Until Kaylee’s palate is repaired, she will be unable to form all of the letter/word sounds and therefore, unable to effectively communicate verbally. Children who are unable to speak and to be understood become frustrated that they cannot express their needs or wants. They oftentimes act out and this frustration negatively impacts their social, mental, and emotional well-being. ASL will be vital to Kaylee not only to communicate, but to maintain her social and emotional health, and as such, vital to the children attending Kaylee’s Garden who also require ASL to communicate.
