The Challenge last month was make a top from the demonstration by Rodney Bethel. He showed and critiqued all of the tops that members brought in. There were all types including some with pewter rims to add weight, all colored different colors and one full of hole and when spun you could see the area underneath.
Thanks for all that brought them in. This is what the demos are for. To have members follow the demo and learn a new skill to do what was done in the demo and produce your own.

This is part 2 of the program from last months meeting. This mentoring program has been around from 2012. Last year West High school remodeled parts of the school and decided that the Woodturning program was successful enough that it needed its own area. Some of the slides will show the area and 4 of the students presented some of their creations with the help of a dedicated group of Badger Woodturners mentors that teach 5 classes a day, 5 days a week. Learn more.

This last meeting we had featured the mentoring programs that are run by members of the club. I will highlight the Jefferson program first. They meet in the evenings to Home schooled and public school kids away from the school. One home school student, Josheph and his mother, Becky showed us some of the projects accomplished at the Jefferson mentoring program.

We had a full house at the meeting May 5th with over 50 people attending in person and another bunch on Zoom.
It was our annual recognition of the talent from the mentoring program at West High School (they teach 5 classes a day, 5 days a week.). The other program is in Jefferson which and teaches couple of evenings to at home students and others that are interested. More on them in the next posting.
This is the items that the members brought in for Show and Tell.
Enjoy.

Last month, April 7th for the challenge members brought in their bowls. Alex chose a number to critique for the group on the quality, design, shape and areas that made them stand out from the others. There were some great bowls displayed.

On April 7th we had a Demo 0n "Spinning Tops". Rodney Bethel showed us how to make Elegantly Enhanced tops that bring out your "Inner Child".
In 2018 he got started making tops at the Jefferson County Fair with a bunch of Badger Woodturners. He still works with the Jefferson group and has enhanced his tops from simple to special tops that take up to 4 hours to make.
He even has a group of kids from his neighborhood that make frequent trips to his shop to help make their own.
Enjoy the process of making something as simple, but can be enjoyable for all ages.
