🍎Apple Adventures in PK3!

Ms. Kempton’s PK3 class had an apple-solutely fun week of learning! Our little learners discovered how apples grow, explored some delicious ways to eat them, and even used apples for hands-on science experiments.

From the orchard to the classroom, apples gave our PK3 students plenty of opportunities to explore, experiment and learn through play!

L is for LUAU!

Pre-K 4 brought a little island fun to the classroom as they celebrated the letter "L" with a luau! From leis and tropical flair to lots of smiles, learning the alphabet has never felt quite so festive.

Our littlest learners are making their way through the alphabet one letter (and one fun adventure) at a time!

Discovering the Joy of Music at SVMS!

Our students were treated to a special visit from Fundamental Music, whose talented musicians introduced them to the many instruments they can learn to play through lessons offered right here at SVMS!

Students got an up-close look (and listen) at instruments from across the musical spectrum, including woodwinds such as flute, clarinet, and saxophone; brass instruments including trumpet and trombone; and strings including violin, viola, cello, and bass. Students can also take lessons in piano and drums.

But the musicians didn't just talk about the instruments ... they put them to work! Through live demonstrations featuring everything from “The Pink Panther Theme” and the “Star Wars” theme to “Sweet Caroline,” “Lassus Trombone,” and “Let It Go,” students heard firsthand the incredible range, versatility, and personality of different instruments.

It was a fun and engaging way for students to explore the possibilities of making music — and perhaps discover an instrument that inspires them!

Science is off to a "running" start!

Our middle school scientists kicked off the school year with the AeroSprint Packaging Challenge, stepping into the role of materials scientist to solve a real-world science problem: How can we protect a high-performance sneaker while it travels through unpredictable conditions?

Students tested plastic and foam materials against water, alcohol, and acetone, carefully observing how each material responded and using evidence to determine which material could withstand variable environmental conditions. Along the way, they engaged with the Scientific Method and used observational skills that make scientists and engineers successful.

We’re so excited to see where our middle school scientists take their questions, creativity, and curiosity this year!

Faith is at the Heart of SVMS.

Our SVMS community came together in faith twice this week; first as our students and staff gathered for a school Mass, and again on Sunday as our families celebrated our Back-to-School Mass together.

These moments are a beautiful reminder that faith is not simply something we celebrate on special occasions. It permeates everything we do at SVMS. It shapes how we learn, how we serve, how we care for one another, and how we grow together as a community.

Beginning the school year gathered around the altar reinforces what makes SVMS such a special place: a community grounded in faith, strengthened by our families, and united in our shared mission.

What a meaningful way to begin another year together.

Can You Guess Who?

Thanks to our talented middle-school art teacher, Mrs. Dickson, our stairwell has a very special new display! She took it upon herself to collect and arrange childhood photos of our SVMS faculty and staff. Our students have been having a great time stopping to guess who’s who as they pass by.

We thought our families at home might have some fun guessing, too! How many familiar faces do you recognize?

Beyond the fun, the display offers a sweet reminder: every teacher and staff member was once a child, too, eager to learn, to grow, to belong, and to be understood.

We remember what it was like to be on the other side of the desk, and we carry that understanding with us as we teach, guide, encourage, and care for our students each day. Behind every childhood photo is someone who grew up to choose a life of serving children, and that makes this display especially meaningful.

We are especially grateful for our own SVMS faculty, staff, and families, whose commitment and care help make our school community such a special place.

Throughout both floors of SVMS, welcoming and cheerful bulletin boards have filled the school with color, warmth, and excitement. Lovingly created by our teachers and their aides, each display reflects the care, creativity, and anticipation that went into preparing to welcome their new students.

Our beautifully renovated first-floor hallways provide a fresh backdrop for these thoughtful displays, while the second floor is every bit as bright and inviting — together creating a joyful atmosphere throughout the entire school.

The warm welcome begins the moment you step into our lobby, where our Virtue of the Month, Gratitude, is featured alongside our Saint of the Month, St. Vincent de Paul, whose legacy of charity and service is especially meaningful within our Vincentian and Sisters of Charity tradition.

Everywhere you look, you can see the excitement of a new beginning and the care that makes SVMS such a special place. We’re ready for a great year!
