Preschool of the Arts offers a vibrant learning community committed to creativity and exploration. Our curriculum is influenced by the Reggio philosophy.

Founded in 1971 and incorporated since 1975, we currently serve children 18 months through pre-kindergarten and offer summer programs through age 7. Our highly qualified faculty average over 13 years of teaching experience and includes music and art specialists. We maintain a safe and beautiful environment that celebrates play and our children's interests. Our accredited program allows for long-term relationships, documents each child's development, and encourages parent involvement.

Over the past year, the Cloud Room have been studying trees. Back in September, each child chose one of the many trees on our grounds to be their special tree for the year. They observed the tree throughout the school year, across all seasons. We learned so much about trees together!

Each summer, we pick a school-wide intention to help guide our work with children. This year, we are 'Restoring Reverence'. We seek to cultivate our relationships with the natural world through stewardship, gratitude, and shared rituals. Slow down and appreciate the beauty all around!

After many weeks exploring the Language of Self-Portraiture & Identity, the two- and three-year olds in the Maple Room utilized the many skills they have developed to create a self-portrait that could be used in their imaginative play.

"Mine looks silly."
"I made it happy!"
"My hair is long. I need long hair."

This spring, the Oak Room children and teachers embarked on a study of desert habitats, and the saguaro cactus in particular. This was sparked by the book Cactus Hotel by Brenda Guiberson. The Oakies were captivated by the towering saguaro cactus and amazed to learn that animals could build their nests inside it without causing it harm.

We are so impressed with their work!

We had so much fun celebrating spring and Earth Day at our Spring Sing this week! Thank you to all the families who were able to join us in celebrating the new season, and an extra special thank you to our Music Specialist for leading us in so many songs.

🎶 If all the raindrops
Were lemon drops and gumdrops
So what a rain that would be 🎶

Last week, to celebrate Week of the Young Child, we invited our whole community to create postcards to lawmakers. We use this celebration as an opportunity to advocate for the rights and visibility of the young children we have the privilege to learn and grow with every day!

Happy Earth Day! This week, in addition to the regular items we collect for recycling (printer ink/toner, batteries, light bulbs, food pouches), we are inviting our community to drop off those hard-to-recycle items they might be hanging on to.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! 🌎

As part of our ongoing exploration of identity in the Art Studio, we have been inspired by the work of Kimmy Cantrell. Cantrell is a contemporary sculptor known for colorful ceramic portraits with expressive, asymmetrical faces. Using a variety of matboard shapes, the children created collages of their own faces.

"I have a side mouth! It's a little happy and a little sad."
"This would be a good nose."
"We need some glue to make it stick!"
