Lussier Family Heritage Center The Lussier Family Heritage Center provides outdoor and environmental education experiences for persons of all ages and ability levels.

We strive to connect all people with the outdoors as parks and open-spaces are vital to mental and physical well-being. The center offers a unique natural setting only 10 minutes from downtown Madison in William G. Lunney Lake Farm County Park and the Capita

l Springs Recreation Area. It also is easily accessed via two major shared-use trails: the Lower Yahara River Trail and the Capital City State Trail. The Lussier Family Heritage Center connects the community to natural resources through education, recreation, and experiences. The native prairie, freshwater marsh, and oak savanna habitats on the rolling hills of glacial drumlins, offer a scenic setting for many year-round recreational opportunities and other activities including meetings, events, weddings, and educational opportunities.

Join us for a community learning and networking opportunity centered on creating, enhancing, and managing native plant gardens!

To kick off Wisconsin Stormwater Week, this month’s learning topic will focus on rain gardens and downspout gardens. Learn more about these special gardens, when they can be used, and how to install them. Planting plans and resources will be available and experts will be on hand to provide design help and answer questions. You can also watch the rainfall simulator in action to see how rain gardens work to prevent stormwater pollution.

🏞️Youth Volunteers for Conservation🏞️
Join us for a hands-on fieldwork event dedicated to public health and environmental stewardship! Ticks are a major vector for diseases like Lyme disease in Wisconsin. Understanding them and their habitats are key to keeping park users and staff safe. For this session, we are team up with a Graduate Student Researcher from the UW-Madison Uelmen Disease Ecology Lab conduct tick forecasting research. YV4C will gather data and survey ticks to help shape regional conservation strategies in Dane County.

Program is free and geared towards ages 15 - 21. Join on September 12th from 2 - 4 pm.

Welcome back to our public schools today! It is never too early to start planning for those days off of school due to professional development for teacher! Our 2026 -2027 school year dates are available now for registration! Activities are based on the season and weather.

Cost: $70 per child
Time: 8:30 am - 4 pm.

Meet Brier! He may look familiar to some of you, and that is because Brier was one of our Dane County Land & Water Resources Department Interns this summer. We are so excited to promote him to an Education Staff member! He even volunteered to get pied at our final week of summer camp! Come visit our programs this fall to meet Brier.
