Bernie's Place Inc. We are a non-profit Childcare Center on campus providing high quality, age-appropriate, childcare. Bernie’s Place, Inc. until 5:45 p.m.

is the corporate entity that operates this childcare program. We are sponsored by OCCC, the Office of Campus Child Care, beginning in 2001. All parents, staff and board members of Bernie’s Place are members of this corporation. Our year-round program is licensed by the State of Wisconsin and accredited by the City of Madison Day Care Unit. Our license allows us to care for up to 56
children aged

6 weeks to 6 years, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. We believe children learn by doing. By carefully preparing materials and the surroundings, our teachers use the natural curiosity and energy of a child's own desire to explore. Our teachers plan both small group and free-choice activities designed to meet the individual needs, interests, and learning styles of young children. Our priority is the healthy development of the whole child; physical, social, emotional and cognitive, rather than accelerated acquisition of academic skills. In our experience, emphasizing the former promotes the latter.
