Lake Monona Igloo

Lake Monona Igloo Stop by to help build! We're usually there Saturdays and Sundays from ~noon to 4:30 pm.

Around 80 person-hours have gone into the construction of this work of art. Located on Monona Bay, near Brittingham Park, the igloo is a refuge for those who make the sometimes treacherous trek across the ice. In 2011, the last year the igloo was able to be constructed because of weather patterns, it boasted a 12-foot diameter and stood nearly 11 feet tall. This year's igloo is roughly equal in si

ze but due to improved building processes and engineering, construction is moving much faster, allowing us to plan for additional rooms and compartments. It is a symbol of friendship, dedication, and the efficient use of natural resources. Anyone and everyone is welcome to hang out in the igloo and enjoy shelter from the wind and snow.

Igloo friends and helpers -- weather permitting, we're planning to work on the igloo tomorrow afternoon, and everyone is welcome to join us! Stay tuned for exact times.

A little later than we would have liked, but Nature finally gave us some/a lot of snow. We're looking at working on the 'gloo in the next day or two -- stay tuned!

Hello everyone,

After several rounds of (failed) negotiations with Mother Nature, we have decided to CANCEL the igloo build tomorrow -- there just isn't enough snow :/

However, we will *for sure* be building next Saturday, Feb. 7 during the Frozen Assets Festival, and possibly one evening this coming week, so stay tuned and dream of snow!!

Love,
Lake Monona Igloo & Clean Lakes Alliance, of Dane County
