It’s not too late to sign up for next week’s workshop with Andrew Sjodin: The Alla Prima Still Life
Go to www.atwoodatelier.com to sign up!
This approachable, fun workshop is designed for students of all levels—even those who are completely new to painting. I begin with a three-hour demonstration on the first morning. For a three day workshop students will create three simple still lifes over the first two days (one each session: first afternoon, second morning, second afternoon).
On the final day of the three day workshop students will set up and work on a slightly more complex still life for the full day. By the end, most students complete four paintings. The five day workshop varies from the three day by including an additional demonstration on the third morning and the opportunity to complete two full-day alla prima paintings.
Topics covered: materials, palette and color considerations, composition, paint handling, value-keying, lighting, and individualized questions and guidance.
* Monday June 15th - Wednesday June 17th
* 9:30am - 4:30pm (lunch 12:30 - 1:30)

Gallery Night Artist Spotlight: Angelina Borchardt ()
“Starting my oil painting journey in September 2025, I am constantly looking to grow my skills and refine my eye in portrait paintings. I am inspired by classical realism and I strive to show beauty in my work similar to those. In the future I hope to explore different styles and master painting techniques.”

I absolutely love painting at the Atwood Atelier along the community of artists that gather there. Through their support and guidance I’ve grown so much as an artist.”

Gallery Night Artist Spotlight: Luke Steele ()
“Being an artist is a lifelong pursuit, one I have undertaken to better understand both my subjects and the world before me. Working primarily with traditional materials, I use chiaroscuro to explore light, form, and atmosphere, aiming to create images that are both dramatic and grounded in clarity.
As a local representational artist, finding a community like the one offered by the Atwood Atelier has been invaluable. Through regular sessions, the opportunity to create from life makes learning both accessible and deeply rewarding.”
Come see Luke’s work this Friday, from 5-9 at Atwood Atelier!

Gallery Night Artist Spotlight: Darya Vassina
“My love for painting in natural light, outdoors or en plein air determines the choice of subjects and the medium — oil paintings of land- and seascapes, as well as still lifes and florals or portraits done outdoors or in my studio with natural light. In my work I try to convey both, the first impression I derive from my subjects as well as their materiality.”
Join us on Friday, May 8th from 5-9pm to see Darya’s work, and the work of 20+ other artists!

“As an analytical artist, I love drawing images from life and molding the light and the intensity of contrast into a mood. To capture the moment.”
