Celebrating a milestone always feels good and this one deserves a little spotlight. M3 Erika Moe (Ojibwe) recently wrapped up a second rotation at the Ho‑Chunk House of Wellness. Here's a blurb about her experience.
"Do you want to fight diabetes by day and eat cute apps with nice views + get lost in the Wisconsin woods at night during tick season? If so, sign up for a rotation with Dr. Amy DeLong at the Ho-Chunk House of Wellness!
This was my second rotation working with Dr. DeLong and it was a great time! As an M3 on my AAI, Dr. DeLong let me build on the skills I gained in Phase 2 by allowing me to take ownership of my 7-9 patients per day. In between patients, I solidified my understanding of diabetes, as well as the different management options. After clinic, we went on hikes at Devils Lake and on my last day, she took me on a hike to Mirror Lake, then to Ishnala for apps. Working with Dr. DeLong has taught me the impact of a positive work environment on patients, families, and staff. She also serves as a role model for physicians trying to reach a healthy work life balance. I hope to be a mentor like her someday who is open to any question and is up for any adventure, whether that be hiking in the woods at night, volunteering for the school board, or trying es cargo for the first time!"
A moment worth cheering for 👏

We were locked in last crafternoon! Attendees are encouraged to bring a project they're working on or come and learn something new. It's a good time to hang out and take a break from being busy students for a bit 🙂

The Native American Center for Health Professions (NACHP) is pleased to announce our last lecture of the academic year, Jessica Rickert, DDS (Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation).
This lecture series is sponsored by the Indians into Medicine (INMED), Indian Health Service grant.
Dentistry is The Pathway to a Healthy Body
Join us to learn more about Jessica A. Rickert, DDS and her triumphant path to become an accomplished dentist and a powerful role model for all youth. During her talk, Dr. Rickert will share the history of her Tribe, including the sad and arduous Pottawatomi Trail of Tears and the forced removal to Kansas. Her grandparents' trek back to Michigan is the definition of courage and serves as a source of inspiration for her path, as well as a celebration of the Pottawatomi, Odawa and Ojibway heritage and culture.
Through Dr. Rickert’s own personal journey and expertise, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the pathways into dentistry and the important foundation it provides for overall health in Indigenous communities.
