Greetings Friend of Wild Harvest Nature Connection,

We hope you're doing well. ๐Ÿ™‚

We're writing to you today to share the news of Tom Brown, Jr's passing on Friday morning Aug 16. You may or may not know that name Tom Brown, Jr but as a person connected with Wild Harvest Nature Connection we want to let you know this man has impacted Wild Harvest to the degree that this organization simply would not exist without Tom's work. Yes, we're influenced by others too but many are other students of Tom, and Tom's influence in the specific ways and work of WHNC is central and profound. As a child Tom was mentored into a profound connection with nature by a wandering Lipan Apache known as Grandfather Stalking Wolf who helped Tom develop his gifts as a tracker, teacher, scout and medicine holder. What Grandfather gathered he passed to Tom, and Tom has passed to 10's or even 100's of thousands. Co-Founders Alex and Heather were heavily influenced by Jon Young, Tom's first student, and his teachings of cultural repair and village building. Alex was directly influenced by going to visit Tom at Trackerschool over the past 20 years. Tom's passion was immense, his curiosity endless, his gaze piercing, his humor constant, and his love could be felt by all his students. Tom always said that he taught not for the students in the class, but for those they would teach, and he said as such we are all Grandfather's Grandchildren. If you wish to know more of Tom and Grandfather's story please read his books The Tracker, and Grandfather. The stories are epic; and through them you'll feel and know more of how far and deep the ways of WHNC are rooted.

We're so sad that Tom is gone, and so grateful for all the stories we've heard him tell. I, Alex, am so grateful for all the classes I've been able to go sit in with Tom. He always inspires. Always gets us sensing out beyond what I thought was possible. Always gave challenges and left a trail of breadcrumbs that left us wondering about what more was possible. And now he has passed on, leaving all of us to dig deeper to practice the skills, go to our sit spots, practice foxwalking until the practices themselves become the breadcrumbs leading our way forward toward deeper connection with ourselves, each other, and the Earth...

See you down the trail Tom, Thank you beyond words for all you've given!

With Heart,
Alex and Heather
