We are excited to welcome Lin Gokee as Northern Outreach Specialist for the Tribal Libraries, Archives & Museums (TLAM) program!

Gokee grew up in Red Cliff and has worked at the Ginanda Gikendaasomin (“We Seek to Learn”) Red Cliff Tribal Library, as Library Engagement Coordinator and eventually as Library Director.

In the new role, "I will be working with the Tribal Nations in the northern part of what we now call Wisconsin to share knowledge, connect with Tribal cultural institutions, and facilitate student involvement in service learning projects," they said. Gokee's position is funded by a Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Grant, exemplifying the iSchool's commitment to serving communities statewide and beyond.

Aaniin. We invite you to the Grand Opening of Niibaagiizhig Maawanji’idiwigamig — The Archie Mosay Resource Center.

This facility is the new home for Education, Elder Services, and Community, with a public library, classrooms, computer labs, gymnasium, commercial kitchen, community spaces, and staff offices.

This is the site of the Old Tribal Center at 24663 Angeline Avenue, Webster. The building has been repurposed with a $4.25 million grant from the State of Wisconsin, Department of Administration.

We are celebrating on Thursday, August 13th, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. with a traditional meal. The event is open to the public and we hope you will join us.

Staff will release early following the celebration.

She is Cherokee, she is 28, and she just made history. Again. This time she opened the first Cherokee-language bookstore in her community, and the whole town showed up to celebrate.

For generations, the goal was to erase the Cherokee language, to punish children for speaking it and to let it fade into silence. Today, a new generation of Cherokee women is doing the opposite, building businesses, classrooms, and cultural spaces where the language does not just survive, it thrives out loud and in public.

This is what modern sovereignty looks like. Not just surviving, but creating. Owning the storefront. Signing the lease. Stocking the shelves with syllabary books, beadwork, and the work of Native hands. Turning a language they tried to kill into a living, breathing part of everyday community life.

When a Cherokee woman builds something like this, she is not only opening a business, she is proving that the culture won. Every child who walks through that door and sees their language on the shelves learns something powerful, that being Cherokee is not the past, it is the future.
