This photo shows five positive nitrate tests from five different forage samples recently submitted through our Nitrate Quick Test. Due to the drought conditions and plant stress we've experienced this season, nitrates can accumulate in many forage crops and create a serious risk for livestock. All five samples were also confirmed positive through laboratory analysis by Cumberland Valley Analytical Services.

Before feeding drought-stressed summer annual hay, green chop, sorghum-sudangrass, millet, corn stalks, or other suspect forages, consider having them tested. A simple nitrate test can help identify potential problems and allow you to make informed feeding decisions before animals are exposed.
