Today, we celebrate not just the Second Continental Congress's adoption of the Declaration of Independence, but all those who have served our great nation. Their service and sacrifice have guaranteed our freedom.

Nations come into being in many ways. Military rebellion, civil strife, acts of heroism, acts of treachery, a thousand greater and lesser clashes between defenders of the old order and supporters of the new--all these occurrences and more have marked the emergences of new nations, large and small. As we cross into July, the Office of Military & Veterans Services (OMVS) crosses into a new era!

For 12 years, the OMVS has been proud to call DeRicci 122 our home, but starting in Fall 2026, the OMVS will be operating out of our new home in the basement of Regina Hall. This new space expands the OMVS capabilities and creates a larger, more welcoming Student Lounge for our Military Connected Community (MCC).

None of this could be possible without the steadfast effort of several of our undergraduate students who met with the Vice President for Student Development, Dr. Matthew Sullivan, to identify new spaces across campus that may be best suited for a new, larger space, and worked on a proposal and compiled student testimony to present to the administration. These efforts led to a meeting between two of our student leaders (pictured) and President Manion in early May to discuss the need for additional space and advocate for the needs of the MCC. Ultimately, the combined efforts of these student leaders resulted in the administration granting the OMVS a new, larger space to call home!

We are hopeful that the OMVS will be fully operational in the coming weeks and that all those in our MCC consider stopping in to catch up and see our new home!

As we step into the weekend before Memorial Day, we take a moment to honor the brave souls who gave their last breath for our nation and its people.

Few words can express the depth of gratitude the Office of Military & Veterans Services has for those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and few words can comfort the families and friends left behind, but we're reminded that our freedom's fabric is woven with the threads of their selflessness. ❀️

May their legacy inspire us to strive for a brighter tomorrow! πŸ’«
