It was a picture perfect morning for a run!
UWPD was honored to join other law enforcement from the Manson area for the final leg of the Law-Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Wisconsin.
Good luck to the amazing athletes in Whitewater this weekend!!
K9 Ritter’s final sign off. Happy retirement, buddy.
And THANK YOU.

Today is a bittersweet day as we wish K9 Ritter a happy retirement after nine years of dedicated service to the UW–Madison community and beyond.
Since joining UWPD in 2017, Ritter and Officer Justin Zurbuchen have worked side by side as an explosives-detection and human-tracking team, helping keep our campus safe through 327 deployments, countless special events, and every single Wisconsin football home game during Ritter's career.
Ritter, thank you for your unwavering dedication, hard work, and loyal service. We know you'll enjoy trading long tracks and security sweeps for a well-deserved retirement with the Zurbuchen family.
We'll miss seeing you around campus, but we're so excited for your next restful chapter. Enjoy retirement, Ritter! 🐾💙

Earlier this week marked the 58th anniversary of a very dark day on our campus.
On May 26th, 1968 – the Sunday of finals week – UW-Madison freshman student, Christine “Chris” Rothschild, was found murdered on campus next to Sterling Hall.
For nearly six decades, UWPD has continuously investigated her murder; however, we are seeking your help to find the person responsible. We request those who knew Chris in any way to reach out and share their experiences with us. Whether you attended or visited UW-Madison during this time or lived in Ann Emery Hall, where Chris resided, we want to hear from you. Perhaps you saw something or someone and were unaware of the significance of this information.
Throughout our investigation, we have partnered with state and federal law enforcement agencies to utilize all resources to re-examine Chris’s death. We have reviewed and followed every tip received on the investigation. We are thankful to those who have provided these tips and information; there may come a time when we need to recontact you.
There are occasions when people who may have knowledge initially do not come forward. We also know there are times when people do not provide everything they know during an interview with law enforcement. This may be due to their close relationships with those who might be involved, as well as concerns about their own safety, reputation, or standing in the community and amongst their friends. We recognize relationships change over time, as do people and their perspectives.
Even if you think your information is insignificant or believe we are already aware of it, please contact us and allow us to make that determination. Every piece of information helps.
Anyone with information about Chris Rothschild is asked to contact the UWPD Tip Line at 608-265-2345 or email [email protected]. Anonymous tips can be shared through Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014, or online at www.p3tips.com.
