A scheduled meeting with John Morgan Hughes of Ten One Strategies turned into an unexpected and valuable 12-minute "fireside chat" between MNA's CEO | ED, Dr. Tonya Moore, and Mississippi State Representative Donnie Scoggin on issues affecting RNs, APRNs, and healthcare across our state.

Rep. Scoggin was speaking Dr. Moore’s language on many of the issues that matter to Mississippi nurses. MNA is ready to strengthen this relationship and continue the conversation.

Grateful to John Morgan for creating this opportunity. We are aligned on several priorities and share a vision for moving important issues forward.

MNA’s CEO and Executive Director, Dr. Tonya Moore, was deeply honored to serve as an invited panelist at the National Black Nurses Association's 54th Annual Institute and Conference in St. Louis.

“I participated in two important policy sessions - the NBNA Health Policy Institute and the Eddie Bernice Johnson Health Equity Policy Scholars Institute, where I am privileged to serve among the inaugural faculty. Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson made history as the first nurse elected to the United States Congress, making this opportunity especially meaningful.

I am deeply grateful to Institute Co-Chairs Dr. Vivienne Pierce McDaniel and Dr. Celia McIntosh for their leadership and for inviting me to share my knowledge and experience in this important space.”

Dr. Moore is grateful for the opportunity to bring Mississippi's story to national platforms - drawing on her passion for nursing, rural communities, policy, her family's legacy, and experience as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellow.

Dr. Moore also looks forward to continuing these important conversations through upcoming speaking engagements here at home in Mississippi.

According to Dr. Moore, it is an honor to share, serve, and help advance the voice of nursing, nationally and here in Mississippi.

Mississippi's future is bright, and our nursing profession is growing stronger as nearly 600 nurse externs gain hands-on healthcare experience across the state. MNA couldn't be prouder or more excited for what's ahead.

🎉 Nearly 600 nursing students are building Mississippi's health care workforce this summer!

A total of 592 nursing students are gaining hands-on clinical experience through the 2026 Mississippi Summer Student Nurse Externship Program, working alongside experienced nurse mentors at 44 hospitals across the state.

Administered through a partnership of the MHA Health, Research and Educational Foundation, the Mississippi Council of Deans and Directors, and the Mississippi Hospital Association Organization for Nursing Leadership (MONL), the program helps prepare the next generation of nurses while strengthening Mississippi's hospital workforce.

Investing in future nurses today means stronger patient care for Mississippi tomorrow. 💙
