What an incredible night at the Rivoli Theatre.

Students from La Crosse Polytechnic officially premiered their original documentaries as part of our first-ever partnership with PBS Wisconsin Education Youth Media. The result was something truly special for our students, staff, families, and community.

Over the course of the quarter, students immersed themselves in the full documentary production process, researching local stories, conducting interviews, filming, editing, and ultimately sharing their work on the big screen for a live audience.

A heartfelt thank you to Nick, Ian, and the entire PBS Wisconsin Education team for sharing your time, expertise, heart, and resources with our students throughout this entire experience.

Thank you as well to all of our local and broader community participants who trusted our students with their stories and helped bring these documentaries to life.

We’re also grateful to the team at the Rivoli Theatre and Pizzeria for hosting such a memorable premiere experience for our students and families.

And special thanks to Nell Saunders-Scott from the La Crosse Public Education Foundation for helping create the initial connection between our district and the late Jon Miskowski, former Director of Television for PBS Wisconsin. Without that connection and Jon's incredible generosity of spirit, this opportunity may never have happened.

We are honored to have been part of this experience and proud of the meaningful work our students created through storytelling, collaboration, and community connection.

Stay tuned this summer for a behind-the-scenes video project taking a deeper look at the journey, the partnerships, and the student experience behind this incredible opportunity.

PBS Wisconsin Education is mourning the death of Jon Miskowski, PBS Wisconsin Emeritus Director of Television, whose vision and persistence paved the way for the educational service we have today.

Jon was a passionate believer in public media’s responsibility to serve education, and he had a boundless respect for educators. His commitment led to the creation of PBS Wisconsin Education, where he called for us to support educators, caregivers, and children around the state through authentic partnerships, attentive listening, and thoughtful innovation.

Jon’s heart, dry wit, and driving passion will be deeply missed.
