From acorn squash to zinnias, we've got a lot of variety growing in the Henderson Garden this year! Thanks again to our garden sponsors Jung Garden Center, Stoughton.

Are you interested in helping to w**d and water in the garden this summer? Let Mrs. Milewski know! Even stopping by for an hour a week can make a big difference.

Some folks have asked what we do with the garden's bounty as we harvest it. We give it away! Garden volunteers get first dibs, then it is put on the picnic table for anyone who wants it.

Garlic scapes should be ready in a few weeks, followed by greens and tart cherries. Be sure to stay tuned to this page for updates.

The Henderson FAB Lab kids had a busy week in the school garden. With the help of our Master Gardener volunteers, Ms. Barbara and Ms. Kathy, the student w**ded, planted, and watered all of the raised beds, added some giant pots, built a new arched trellis, removed some old garden elements that we don't need any more, and made improvements to the pollinator garden.

Of course they also had fun! The ever-popular digging boxes were open for digging, building and looking for bugs. The stage was a popular place for reenacting last week's school musical. And, maybe the most popular activity, "Find the Bee," was launched, in which students search for a metal garden art bee hidden in or around the garden. 🐝

Dr. FAB Lab saves another beloved friend!

The 4K students from Mrs. Carlson's class delivered their classroom mascot, Baby Bee, to the FAB Lab hospital when its leg was coming off. 🐝

Do you like to go to rummage sales? If so, you can keep an eye out for things we can use in the FAB Lab! We appreciate any donations, but here are some things you might not think about that we could use:
🏠 A doll house. (No accessories needed. We'd make them!)
🏎️ Hot Wheels cars
🟥 Dominoes and other games, game boards, and game pieces
📻 Old radios, DVD players, or CD players, working or not working. (We're going to take them apart anyway.)

Not sure if it is something we could use? Send me a photo and I'll let you know!

A huge thank you to Friend of the FAB Lab, author Pat Zietlow Miller, for donating copies of her book, "Lupe Lopez: Rock Star Rivals," in Spanish. These 2nd grade rock stars are so excited to have a special book to keep!

The 4th and 5th grade students just wrapped up a unit that lasted all of 3rd quarter. We learned about the engineering design process and the students had to design and create a product that their peers would want to "buy." Along the way they also learned how to use Canva to document their process and create advertising posters.

The conclusion of the project was a Maker Market where they could actually sell buy and sell the items they created. We used "FAB Lab bucks," and for an added bonus, whichever student earned the most money from each class would also win a prize.

The students learned a ton. Hopefully this will be a lasting memory of elementary school for all of them!
