Sometimes it can feel like meetings are both the lifeblood and bane of an academic leaderโs existence. Everyone wants to see you, even when a meeting could have easily been an email. They take up time, leaving virtually none for your own work or the projects you and your team have prioritized.
So, for me to suggest there are three additional types of meetings you should add to your calendar, especially as we move into the new academic year, would be ludicrous, right?

We see campus change readiness as having the trust levels, skills, and capacities necessary to engage change initiatives fully, thus improving their likelihood of success. Change readiness is always in flux and, like health, will always need attending to. Daily choices in how we work affect our readiness and can either improve it or weaken it.

One of the most highly touted high-impact resources for students, faculty, and staff in the academy is mentorship. The research is clear: mentoring matters. According to the literature, mentored faculty and staff report higher levels of work satisfaction, are more productive in scholarly and creative endeavors, and are more likely to take on leadership roles on their campuses (Lunsford et al., 2018).
