This week has been FULL of rain! It was fun to pull up pictures from last week to remember what SUN looks like!

Regardless, we’ve been crafting, puzzling, building, boating, and mapping our way through summer. 🌞 ☔️ 🌳

Preschool parents- Summer camp starts tomorrow! It’s a good idea to have the kids wear a swimsuit for water play. Send sunscreen or bug repellent if you want your child to wear it. ❤️

Specialized knowledge of children is important for practitioners and educators alike, in order to understand and meet the unique needs of children. This can be seen through promoting their development and well-being, and creating safe, engaging, and inclusive environments for them. Without this knowledge, professionals and caregivers may not be able to understand or respond to children's needs, which can lead to negative consequences for the children's development and well-being.

Specialized knowledge of children is also important in understanding the different cultural backgrounds and diversity among children. It allows us to create an inclusive and equitable environment. It also enables professionals and caregivers to identify and address any potential disparities in access to resources and opportunities, and to advocate for policies and practices that promote equity and inclusion for all children.

Carol Garboden Murray, M.Ed., emphasizes that children are not just "small adults" and that their experiences, perspectives, and abilities are different from those of adults. This is why we need to work to understand the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children. This knowledge allows us not only to understand and respond appropriately to children's behavior but also allows us to provide the support and resources they need to thrive.

[ID: a father lays on his back in the grass, holding his young toddler above him in the air. The toddler’s arms are stretched down to his father as both engage in play. The words “In the past, caring may have been viewed as a minimum standard of keeping a child safe and clean, or as something anyone could do. In the emerging future, caring is viewed as an intentional teaching practice that connects us to one another, and requires specialized knowledge about children, about learning, growth, and human development.” —Carol Garboden Murray, M.Ed. is written on top of the image.]

We have LOVED the warmer weather this week that allowed us to find caterpillars on the playground, do some gross motor art projects, work in the mud kitchen, read in the shade, and do some water color.
