The foundation of Healing Haven started with stress management for parents who have a child diagnosed with autism or other special needs. Our services grew over time to meet the demand for families in search of help for their children. But we remain committed to providing counseling and stress management for parents, as well as behavioral counseling for children and teens who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, socialization and navigating their world.

A little creativity, a lot of skill-building!

Our August Café & Marketplace was a success! 🛍️🪻

Hosted by our Life Skills Clinic team on our Madison Heights campus, this monthly Cafe & Marketplace gives our teen and young adult clients the opportunity to practice valuable vocational and communication skills by creating handmade items and “selling” them to Healing Haven staff and family members.

From hats and flower wreaths to keychains and windchimes, our clients had plenty of creations to showcase this month. And, of course, no Café & Marketplace would be complete without our always-delicious popcorn and lemonade!

A huge shoutout to our amazing Life Skills leaders for bringing this event to life each month and creating meaningful opportunities for our clients to learn, practice, and grow.

If you are a parent of a child with autism or other special needs, we invite you join us for a free online workshop on Wednesday, September 30 from 8–9 PM.

Our Founder & Chief Innovation Officer, Jamie McGillivary, MS, LLP, BCBA, LBA, will lead a supportive conversation focused on practical ways to manage stress and difficult thoughts and emotions, how to recognize signals from your body, and create moments of calm within everyday family life.

With an emphasis on mindfulness and self-compassion, this workshop is designed to help parents feel more confident in caring for themselves while supporting their child.

A new week is a good time to pause and reflect on what we’re making room for.

Mindfulness has been something Healing Haven has valued since our founding in 2010. We incorporate it in meaningful ways throughout therapy to help clients build emotional awareness and strengthen emotional regulation. We also strive to prioritize it as part of our team culture and support the overall wellbeing of our staff.

Employee Spotlight of the Month: BCBA Emily K.! 🌟

Emily joined our Healing Haven team in February 2023 and has made an incredible impact on the families we work with, as well as our team!

• Started as a Behavior Technician and earned her RBT certification just a few months after joining
• Joined our Practicum Program, gaining experience in a variety of ABA-related roles
• Became a BCBA in June 2025 at our Madison Heights campus

Emily stays inspired every day by helping children and their families. One client memory she’ll never forget is watching a young client learn to communicate their wants and needs without relying on challenging behaviors. “The smile on their face when they realized they could do this was something I will never forget,” she said.

Last week, our Summer Social Skills Groups wrapped up for the season with a special final-day play for parents and team members! 🎭 The performance was a wonderful way to celebrate the growth, confidence, and connections our learners built throughout the summer.

Our 10-week summer social groups program gives tween and teen-aged learners an opportunity to strengthen important skills - including social communication, understanding other people’s perspective, emotional regulation, mindfulness, executive functioning, and more - all in a fun and supportive environment.

A special thank-you to our amazing Student Analysts, Apeksha and Katelyn, for leading the groups this summer and creating such an engaging and educational experience for our learners. We loved seeing everything they accomplished!
