In the late 1980s, the Madera Unified School District commissioned a new high school to be built, to take some of the weight off of Madera High School by easing up some of the overcrowding of the school. Construction started in 1990, but a limited budget forced an abrupt end in 1992. It was decided that the campus was not big enough to be counted as a separate stand-alone high school, and the site

was eventually renamed Madera High School's "South Campus" (with the original school being given the new name "North Campus"). In November 2002, a school bond was passed, allowing MUSD to fund the completion of the project. As a result, the idea of a new, separate high school was once again possible after 10 years. Construction resumed on the campus in late 2004, yet heavy rain and other factors slowed it to a halt. The set date of August 2005 was pushed back a year, and as a result, the incoming freshmen at the school were still labeled as Madera High School students. However, by August 2006, construction had completed, and Madera South High School opened its doors.

SYNOPSIS
Winner of the Tony Triple Crown for Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book, the hilarious Avenue Q tells the timeless story of a recent college graduate trying to find his way in the world. Set in New York City all the way out on Avenue Q (he couldn’t afford anything better), we are introduced to fresh-faced Princeton as he struggles to find his purpose: meeting friends, finding love, losing love, and finding it again, along the way. Inspired by the beloved children’s show Sesame Street, Avenue Q creates a puppet-filled world that is a little more reflective of the difficult realities that we face when we learn that real life isn’t as simple as we dreamed it might be – but perhaps, suggests Avenue Q, life is all the more colorful and worthwhile for it.

Eduardo “Lalo” Herrera, a former Madera South High School running star athlete, just shattered his own Mexican record in the 5,000m with an incredible time of 13:06.36 at the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston! This achievement cements him as one of Mexico’s top distance runners and serves as an inspiration to current MUSD student-athletes, showing them what’s possible with dedication and hard work. The Madera Unified community is proud of his continued success!

Amazing work FFA!!!

Finished up fair with the awards luncheon. Dairy, Beef and Swine won the clean barn awards for their barns. Saray Madriz was named the Outstanding Rabbit Exhibitor, Brianna Tudon was named the Outstanding 1st Year Rabbit Exhibitor and Mathew Machado received the Outstanding Exhibitor Awards for Cavies, Pygmy and Boer Goats.

MUSD proudly announces that Madera FFA Instructor Kristin Sheehan has been recognized as the Region Winner of the Outstanding Ag Education Teacher Award by the National Association of Ag Educators (NAAE).

Mrs. Sheehan's dedication to agricultural education and
innovative teaching methods have significantly impacted her students and the community. She will accept her award at the NAAE Conference in Texas this December. Congratulations, Mrs. Sheehan, on this well-deserved national recognition!
