He was a remarkable presence in our community whose impact reached far beyond the stage and classroom. His contributions to the music community will not be forgotten, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The Townsend School of Music is grieving the passing of Dr. Ian Altman, associate professor of piano at the School of Music. Dr. Altman was retiring at the end of this school year, after 52 years of dedicated service to Mercer.

Dr. Altman was passionate about teaching and cared deeply for his students. He taught most of the music majors who entered the halls of the McCorkle Music Building and Ware Hall before it, and he will be greatly missed by the faculty, staff, and students.

The MGA Chamber Singers will join the Choral Society of Middle Georgia and the Mercer University choir this weekend for a concert celebrating 50 years of choral music in Macon. Concert is free for students. You are invited!

The music keeps rolling! Join us this Wednesday, April 15 at 4:30 PM for a Tiny Desk–style performance by our Commercial Combo. Come hang out and enjoy some great live music!

Hi, everyone. MGA will be holding an open house for students interested in Music and other creative degrees. Free lunch, tours, breakout sessions are part of the day. Please come visit us yourself--I think you may be encouraged and surprised by the wonderful program we offer. Encourage music and other creative students to attend as well. FYI, we have alumni with grad assistantships, in the classroom, with paid internships in places like the new Macon amphitheater, in military bands, leading church music programs and more.

Today, we had the privilege of hosting and recording the bands from Crisp County High School here at Middle Georgia State University.

Due to the severe storms and tornadoes that impacted their community, the students were unfortunately unable to attend LGPE this year. Wanting to still provide their students with a meaningful and high-quality musical experience, their directors reached out to see if they could record in our facilities. We were proud to say yes.

At MGA, we are committed to creating real-world opportunities for students and supporting music education across our region. With access to some of the best recording equipment in the area, our facilities were able to provide these students with a professional and rewarding recording experience.

A special thank you to Michael Gaffney and Miguel Castro for leading the sessions and making the day run smoothly. Dr. Justin McAdara also stopped by to welcome the students and share more about the MGA Music program and the opportunities available here.

We are grateful to play a small role in supporting these talented students and their continued growth. Great work by everyone involved.
