Eleven schools in Bibb County were honored the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement in its latest “Beating the Odds” list! This designation honored schools that out-performed schools across the state with similar demographics related to socioeconomics, race, student disability and other factors. GOSA uses the performance data for those similar schools to create an expected range of CCRPI scores, and each school noted as “Beating the Odds” performed above that range.
Congratulations to these schools:
- Bernd Elementary
- Bruce Elementary School
- Burdell-Hunt Elementary Magnet School
- Sonny Carter Elementary School
- Ingram Pye Elementary School
- McKibben Lane Elementary School
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School MLK Raiders
- Southfield Elementary
- L.H. Williams Elementary
- Miller Fine Arts Magnet Middle School
- Howard High School

Today was an exciting day for our 5th graders as we celebrated Signing Day and the next big step in their journey to middle school!
We were honored to welcome Principal Dr. Williams-Smith from Appling Middle School, who shared encouraging words and excitement with our rising 6th graders about the opportunities ahead. Her message inspired our students to dream big, work hard, and embrace this new chapter with confidence.
We are so proud of each of our students and can’t wait to see all they accomplish in middle school and beyond! 🖤💛❤️✏️

In partnership with The Middle Georgia Regional Library System, our Pre-K students at Burdell-Hunt Magnet Elementary participated in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program. Throughout the year, they listened to 1,000 books, nursery rhymes, and fingerplays. This program helps to promote a strong literacy foundation, increase comprehension and vocabulary skills, and foster a love of reading. They celebrated with a beautiful graduation ceremony. Oh, the places they will go!
