*SUMMER MGA JUNIOR KNIGHT CAMP UPDATE*

Summer is almost here!! While MGA will be hosting a number of summer activities and opportunities, we regret to share that we will not be hosting our annual MGA Junior Knight Camp this summer. The Elementary/Special Education Program, which has hosted Junior Knight Camp in the past, is undergoing some curricular redesign and realignment, which precludes us from hosting camp this year. We invite you to check out other camps available at MGA. You can find more information about these various camps by visiting mga.edu/camps. Have a wonderful summer!

We are popping along on our Science of Reading Journey in the SOE!
Dr. Beauchat, Associate Professor, SOE, provided several trainings on the Science of Reading to the Education Department Faculty. We are working to ensure that we provide our teacher candidates with research-based knowledge and instructional strategies to support the literacy success of all PK-12 students in Georgia.

- The trainings focused on:
- Theoretical Foundations of Science of Reading
- The 5 Pillars of Literacy Instruction
- Reading and the Brain
- Evidence-Based Instructional Strategies
- Shifting from Balanced Literacy to the Science of Reading

And more to follow!

Junior teacher candidates in the Elementary/Special Education program from both Macon and Cochran cohorts participated in literacy engagement nights this month. The Macon Cohort led games and activities at Springdale Elementary School in Bibb County, and the Cochran Cohort worked at Bleckley County Primary School. We had a wonderful time and did some great literacy activities with lots of young families!
