This is a time lapse video Scott did of the comet last night. It’s not too long, but it’s cool.

CometA3Timelapse2 Comet is higher in the sky, but dimmer. It was high enough on the 16th that I tried a short timelapse. Don't know what YouTube is doing to it, looks too dark...

Where are we? “Woe (judgment is coming) to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭5‬:‭20‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Friday- around noon, after being scourged and dressed in a robe and crowned with a crown of thorns, Pilate brought Jesus out again to the crowd of mostly religious leaders, and said he could find no wrong in the man, but the people yelled crucify Him. He claims to be God. Pilate being afraid asked Jesus who He was, but Jesus didn’t answer. Pilate said, “Don’t you know that I have the power to let you live or die?” Jesus said you only have the power given to you by Heaven. Pilate washed his hands and told the soldiers to take him away to be crucified. Jesus was given a cross to carry to Golgotha where he was hung between two thieves. Of the 12, only John and the women who followed Jesus and His mother were there at the foot of the cross. Soldiers and religious leaders mocked Jesus as he hung nailed and torn to pieces saying if He was God, He should save himself. One thief join d in, but the other rebuked him saying he has done nothing wrong. We deserve our punishment. Then that penitent thief asked Jesus to remember him when Jesus came into His kingdom. Jesus replied that today, the thief would be with him in paradise. Right then, the thief was saved and forgiven. No baptism, no specific prayer, no good deeds prior were required. The thief, like us, only had to believe the man who is God. About 3:00 pm, when the Chief Priest was preparing for Passover and was sacrificing the unblemished lamb for the people’s sins, Jesus said, “It is finished.” He then gave up His spirit and died. The sky was dark, and an earthquake shook the earth. At that moment, the veil between the temple areas and the Holy of Holies, where God met with the High Priest on the Ark of the Covenant, was torn in two opening the way for any who believe to come before God Almighty. A Roman soldier at the foot of the cross declared this must be the Son of God. The prophecies concerning the Messiah were fulfilled. As evening came closer and the bodies needed to be removed before the Shabbat began, the soldiers broke the legs of the thieves to hasten their deaths, but as they came to Jesus they saw He was already dead. To make certain they pierced His side where fluid and blood rushed out. Prophecy had declared that His side would be pierced, but not a bone would be broken. Nicodemus, who had been coming to Jesus questioning at night, and Joseph of Arimathema, who was a disciple secretly came boldly and asked for the body and quickly took it for burial before Shabbat began. The Romans rolled a heavy stone across the entrance to the tomb to prevent anyone from trying to steal the body. All had been fulfilled. The price for our redemption had been paid in full. The silence of grief and waiting began. If only the disciples had understood what Jesus had said would happen next. Sunday was coming.

It’s Thursday. Jesus and His disciples met in the Upper Room where they ate the Passover meal. As He broke the bread and thanked God, He told the disciples that He was making a new covenant with them and all who would believe He is God. This is my body that is broken for you. Then He poured the wine in a cup. This is my blood that is poured out for you. Take it. Jesus was telling them that He was to be their Passover lamb, the sacrifice, the one and only needed, for the forgiveness of their sins. He was to be their yeshuah, their salvation. After the meal, He showed them by washing their feet that they should be a servant to others as He came to serve others and not be served. He washed their feet including for Judas who had already set into motion on Wednesday the means to betray Jesus. Jesus told the disciples who would betray Him and told Judas to go and do as he planned. Jesus even told Peter that he would deny him three times before the end of the third watch as Peter adamantly insisted he was ready to die for Jesus. Later, in the evening, Jesus and the disciples went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. Jesus needed strength to face His task. Jesus literally sweat tears of blood as his body was wracked with the stress of knowing what He was to endure. He asked the disciples to pray but they did not understand and let sleep overtake them. Jesus finally let them sleep while He prayed, and an angel came to comfort Him and give Him strength. Finally, Judas arrived with the soldiers and betrayed Jesus with a kiss which was traditionally a sign of loyalty, and Jesus was led way to be tried. And just as Jesus said, Peter eventually denied him that night three times before the crier called the end of the third watch (12 am -3am). Jesus was passed around before the Sanhedrin, Pilate, and Herod during the dark hours in secret, questioned, and humiliated and finally beaten to near death. All this before the sun rose. As the city woke, a crowd gathered as Jesus was brought again to Pilate to decide His fate. Pilate gave the crowd a choice between Jesus and the murderer, Barabus. Spurred on by the religious leaders, the crowd demanded Barabus be freed and Jesus crucified. Jesus was the perfect lamb.

Mock Trial is a wonderful program for high school students. The program develops confidence and poise as it teaches young people how to speak in public and use logic to argue their case. It is an excellent addition to university applications, and the Middle Georgia Home School Community is privileged to have a home school team in Macon that has won numerous awards over the last thirty years. The students work hard throughout the school year, compete with the top students in the state, and have made their parents and families proud as they have won competition after competition through the years. If you would like your son or daughter to join this award winning team this year, please join Richard Ricks at Forest Hills UMC for the season kickoff meeting on Thursday, August 11 at 7:00 PM.
