What an incredible day at the Women United Luncheon at Mercer University! The highlight was undoubtedly hearing our Southfield student leader, Nolan, share his story. His speech was so powerful, heartfelt, and inspiring that he received not one, but TWO standing ovations! Dr. Laney was also honored to speak about the impact of community partnerships and Read United at Southfield, but watching Nolan confidently represent our school and inspire a room of more than 200 community leaders was the moment that will stay with her. We are so proud of you, Nolan! Thank you Women United, Read United, and United Way of Central Georgia.

Today, Southfield opened its doors and welcomed an incredible 273 grandparents and special guests for our Grandparents Day celebration, and what an unforgettable experience it was! The building was filled with smiles, hugs, laughter, storytelling, interactive activities, and priceless memories. Students were excited to share their school with their biggest fans and the energy throughout the building was simply AMAZING! To our grandparents and special guests, thank you for showing up and reminding our students that they are surrounded by a village of love, support, wisdom, and encouragement. Your presence made today extra special!

AMIRA came to visit and celebrate our students today! Classes who met their goals received a special treat and recognition for engagement, minutes of practice, and stories read. They also earned PBIS points from Dr. Laney. This is what happens when we set goals, monitor our learning, and grow as readers! Stay tuned…

On Friday, in recognition of Patriot Day, we proudly honored the brave men and women who serve and protect our community each day. It was a meaningful opportunity for our students and staff to reflect on the sacrifices of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and to show appreciation for those who continue to put their lives on the line for our safety and security. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Fire Department, Police Department, and our own BCSD Campus Police for their commitment to serving others. A special highlight was when several of our Stallion Fire Marshals and aspiring service leaders had the opportunity to "Chat and Chew" with our honored guests, learning firsthand about leadership, courage, and community service. It was a wonderful day of remembrance, gratitude, and learning as we paused to honor our heroes and reflect on the importance of service to others.
