"We have but one rule here, and it is that every student be a gentleman." -Robert E. Lee Sams Jr., a Mercer alumnus and brother of Kappa Chapter.
The men of the Kappa Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order would like to welcome you to our webpage and invite you to our Fall '11 Rush here at Mercer University in Macon, GA. Kappa Alpha Order was founded in Lexington, VA at Washington & Lee University and has been a strong and promising order of Knights, southern gentleman, and brothers since our beginnings in 1865. The Kappa Chapter, one of the earliest
and oldest chapters of KA, has been on Mercer's campus since 1873 and is one of the longest continuously chartered chapters in the nation. Having just finished two of our best academic, philanthropic, and socially active semesters in recent years, we are poised and prepared to move even further forward to make a measurable difference on our campus, community, and brotherhood. The philosophy of our fraternity is that the acquisition of knowledge and the development of character are the great goals of life. Our primary values include gentility and chivalry, respect for the lady and pure womanhood, honor, integrity, and reverence to God. The Kappa Chapter has a reputation for its strong scholastics, competitive intramural teams, exciting social events, and strong brotherhood. We pride ourselves on having one of the strongest national organizations amongst all fraternities, and for having such a large, strong, and dedicated core of alumni. We here at Kappa pride ourselves in the rich history that surrounds our chapter at Mercer University. We have been a continuously running chapter for 138 years, exclusively hold the only chapter room in the 5th floor R. Kirby Godsey Administration Building, and are the founders of the Old South Dixie Ball, a nationally celebrated social function by all chapters of Kappa Alpha. If you are an incoming freshman to Mercer, you've also read 'Whisper of the River', written by author and KA Ferrol A. There is a firm belief among our brothers that resonates not just in our chapter, but in every chapter in the nation. We do not make or mold KAs. You are born a KA. We only reaffirm the values, morals, and character that were instilled in you by your family, friends, and community. In staying true to this ideal, we offer a true bid of brotherhood that is unmatched. In order to receive a bid and pledge Kappa Alpha Order, you must be unanimously received by every brother of the chapter. We believe this assures those who choose to join our brotherhood that there is not a single man within our fraternity who does not believe that you represent the highest ideals of KA. We hope to see you during recruitment and will gladly be of service if you should have any questions regarding Rush or general life on campus. Brothers can easily be identified with our KA t shirts. Our recruitment schedule will soon be posted on this page for easy referral, as well as more information regarding the chapter and its brothers. Please, do not hesitate to inquire anything and we hope you have a great rest of the summer. Fraternally,
Kappa Chapter,
Kappa Alpha Order
